Introduction date2014

The Spearfighter is a twin-engine, canard-delta wing, multirole and air superiority fighter manufactured and produced by a consortium of companies, chiefly Flynn Defence Systems from the Allied Castarcian States and IDAItech from Brytene, produced in response to both nations' demand for a competent and reliable aircraft in order to replace older obsolescent aircraft. The Spearfighter is classified as a generation 4.5 fighter aircraft.

Development of the Spearfighter began in 2004, when the Allied Castarcian military approached Brytisc Fleet Command with a proposal to collaborate on a joint air-superiority craft.

The Spearfighter is a highly agile aircraft, designed with dog-fighting and aerial combat in mind. Later upgrade packages have improved its air-to-ground capacities, but it is still primarily deployed as an air-defense asset by the Castarcian military and the Confederate Brytisc Fleet.

Development

Requirements

The two militaries worked together to draw up a contract requirement for the aircraft, demanding a variety of integral capabilities and operational functions. Many of these remain classified, but the fighter was required to have STOL capabilities, be able to mount significant short and long-range missile armaments, alongside improved radar signature reduction features and measurably superior maneuverability in comparison to same-generation aircraft.

Testing

The first test flight took place in the Allied Castarcian States, followed by a second round of Cold Environment Trials (CET) flights in Nortymba to determine its operational capacity in extreme weather conditions (−30 to 35 °C).
