List of heads of state of Werania
Werania has since the creation of the Rudolphine Confederation by Lothair in 900 had 49 heads of a state either serving as a confederal leader, monarch, consul or a member of a directory.
From 900 to its demise in 1754 Werania was governed by the Rudolphine Confederation, a confederation of kingdoms, dukedoms, bishoprics and principalities that owed allegiance to the Emperor of the confederation. Although the emperor was officially elected by the most powerful members of the confederation in practice it was a hereditary position passed between various noble houses. Under the Schwarzollen and later Kotzauberg-Gofkecht dynasties the confederation was centralised to the result it was made a de facto single entity under the authority of the emperor.
Following the Weranian Revolution and the creation of the Republic of Werania the new state was ruled by the President of the National Convention, elected every year by the Assembly of the People until Balthasar Hötzendorf's consolidation of power in 1790.
Following the collapse of the Republic in 1801 the Treaty of Wertsberg dissolved the unified Weranian polity, with it instead becoming a handful of kingdoms. In 1864 under Rudolf VI the Weranian Confederation was declared with the Schwarzollen-Brücken dynasty serving as the ruling family.
The current head of state is Queen Charlotte II, the second female head of state in Weranian history.

Leader of the Weranian Republic
The Weranian Republic had neither a formal head of state or government. The Directory of the National Diet was the highest executive body but acted in accordance with the National Diet itself. Under international law the President of the National Diet - akin to a speaker - could be seen as the head of state but as their term was only a month was not considered to be the leader of the country. Nevertheless its generally held that several men were considered to be the republic's de facto rulers at various points during the republic's existence. In 1791 generalfeldmarschall Balthasar Hötzendorf was appointed by the National Diet as the Captain-General of the Republic (Kapitän-General der Republik) a position akin to a Solarian dictator.
