Geographical Features
Kalaron is home to a variety of geographical features, including the Molrana Fissure and both the Sol Tiras Caldera and Kar Tiras Crater. These landmarks, as well as the high-standing Mesas and the Western Somak Mountain range, stand out among the deserts that comprise most of the Kalaronian Landscape, though there are forested strips of land to the far north and south.
The Sol Tiras Caldera was formed some 40,000,000 years ago when a Magma Chamber in Northern Kalaron collapsed. This event caused a bowl-shaped depression in the land as the former rock-dome settled on the bottom, and seasonal rains and flooding filled it into a somewhat vast lake and Oasis for the nearby cities, though the water is heavily treated due to the presence of metal contaminants. These same metals also provide for a lucrative source of Copper, Mercury, Gold and Sulfur for the Resource Extraction Industry. Additionally, a large Reactor with an insulated cooling loop (necessary due to the presence of trace amounts of Uranium in the water) powers the Extractors and Purifiers that deliver metals and potable water to the Industry Cities of Kalaron.
The Kar Tiras Crater, meanwhile, is the remnants of the Cyril-01220 Impact, an event that devastated the the landscape 14,000,000 years ago. Cyril-01220, an S-Type Asteroid, caused a crater some fourteen kilometers wide, with a vast amount of the crater being enriched in various Rare Earth Elements as a result of 01220's composition.
The Molrana Fissure, meanwhile, is the grim remains of the former city of Kastara, home to the Kast Clan. Kastara, as one of the most advanced Research Cities in Kalaron, was involved in experiments in the recently uncovered Cordium Ores discovered deep underground. With some of the first sources of Cordium, and with the highest purity level in Kalaron by far, the Kast Clan were thrust into a position of extreme influence due to the high cost of Cordium and the premium on finding applications for the energy-rich material, with Kastara itself on the track to become one of -if not the most- important city in the Nation. Officially, records say that the ground beneath the city, although similar in many respects to that of other nations, had an even lower sand-content than is normal for cities. This, coupled with the extensive and fast-paced mining operations for the Ores, caused the sound and activity of the City above to act as Activation Energy for the Cordium below. The resultant heat build up, much as with a conventional nuclear melt-down, began to melt surrounding rock and infrastructure, and the vast amount of material beneath the City guaranteed that the rising rock on the sides melted and expanded first, feeding the city downwards into the heat and tearing vast rifts in the ground. In the modern day, Kastara's role as the head Research City has been overtaken by Rolkson, and the mining of their Cordium Deposits has been resumed by nearby Industrial Cities.

Defenses
Kalaron, as the largest single Military Arms Producing nation in the world, Kalaron is a carefully guarded state with multiple layers of overlapping defenses. Additionally, vehicles from each produced batch for a given sale are earmarked instead for submission to the KMU, with their cost being subtracted from the final price for the customer. While this can be less reliable than conventional procurement, this keeps the cost of production down to an absolute minimum, allowing for much of the money that would have gone to conventional forces to be dedicated to more exotic forces instead.
The result of this policy, coupled with higher funding for the Military in light of the threat represented by the Iron Cross, has been the creation of the Rapid Aerial Strike Force, the Rapid Naval Strike Group and a number of classified programs.
