Temolen (pronounced /tɛmˈoʊlɛn/) is a port city in north-central Arimathea. It is the fourth-most populous city in the nation, with an urban population of over one million, and the twenty-fifth largest in the Trellinese Empire as a whole. Its metropolitan area had a population over 1.4 million in 2014 and was one of the fastest-growing in Arimathea.
Temolen was founded in the sixth century on the estuary of the Nerioth, Arimathea's second longest river. It lies in the west of the modern district of Oreziq. It is the district's main economic centre and a locally important port city.
It has been a major industrial centre since the Industrial Revolution reached Arimathea, rising to prominence as an exporter of coal mined upriver in the northern Vekra Retiqa. Its own industry developed extensively in this time, leading to high levels of population growth that made it the most populous city in the state between 1845 and 1856. Its importance declined following the Arimathean Revolution, which centralised political and economic power in the capital, but it remained the third-most populous city until Dargai surpassed it in 1920.
The resurgence in Temolen's growth in recent decades has been in part facilitated by an increased focus on decentralised, districtual development, which has seen substantial investment from public and private sources in cities such as Temolen. It is an important link on Arimathea's transport networks, with major rail and road connections to the north of the country and to Étlaurlande.
