Irina Rainford (21 July 1968) is an Erebonian engineer, inventor, and arms designer who is currently the Chairwoman and CEO of Erebonian Arms Manufacturer, Rainford Group. She is the mother of TF 141 and Class VII student, Alisa Rainford.
Early Life and Career
Born in 1968 to EWII veterans James Gwyn Rainford and Anika Ekland, Irina is the only child of the couple. She attended the Thors Military Academy in 1986, and graduating in 1990. She resumed her studies within the academy, pursuing a degree in Engineering. She developed a close teacher-student relationship with then-Brigadier Kiriya Kitagawa during her second year, which was the latter's first year as headmaster. He served as her military studies and engineering professor until she graduated in 1994. She also served as her tutor during her bar exams, which she passed and became a licensed engineer. As a result of this, Irina eventually became close friends with Kiriya that still continues today.
Irina inherited the company in 2000. During the Second Lucis Civil War and Imperial Crisis, she supplied her former mentor, Field Marshal Kiriya Kitagawa with various weaponry and equipment that often placed Task Force 141 ahead of most Allied special forces that time. She was also one of the sponsors of the RG 417, which she hoped to be the new standard issue for most Commonwealth armies, with the exception of Concordia.
Irina has constant disagreements with various Concordian Military Officials, who wanted to obtain the rights to produce certain weapons created by the company. Irina refused. As a result, the Rainford Group never supplied equipment to the Royal Concordian Armed Forces.
Personal Life
She married Franz Lughman, one of the company's important engineers . Together, they had a daughter whom they named Alisa.
Irina is a known workaholic. Following the death of her husband, Irina focused entirely on the growth of the Rainford Group, losing sight of the family she used to care for. She became too focused on expanding the company that she doesn't have the same moral limits as her father had. In further pursuit of company growth, she was willing to go behind the back of her father and force him to resign. Because of her disagreements with her father, Irina has a distant relationship with her father.
Irina is extraordinarily flexible in everything she does, and shows an immense ability for multitasking. She never stops for a moment to rest, going from one meeting to the next, much to her daughter, Alisa's frustration.
Despite her obsession with her company, she also shows that she still cares about Alisa and her deceased husband. She keeps an eye on Alisa even after she ran away to the academy, reading reports on Alisa's progress. She encourages Alisa to do more than simply rebel, challenging Alisa to take a stand and actually demonstrate what she believes the correct path for the Rainford Group is. She also keeps sentimental items around, such as photos and a watch, that remind her of her daughter and husband, and their old family.
Following the death of her husband during the War of the Commons, Irina mended her relationship with her father and daughter. As she slowly began transferring responsibilities to her daughter, Irina became closer with her daughter once again.
