Zama, officially the Kingdom of Zama, is an absolute monarchy located in Western Varisia that borders Hiraeth to the north, Marsonia to the west, Caeruleum to the south, and the great Shomerisian sea to the north west. Since its foundation, the country has been notorious for its fragile stability and intermittent periods of political turmoil. Located mostly within the mountainous region of Western Varisia, the country lacks access to clean drinking water, which has played a primary role in most conflicts in its history. A large minority of the Zamareise people live outside the country. The conservative majority are known for their hospitability despite having the lowest living standard in Western Varisia. The kingdom's focus on stabilization has kept civil and political rights in the country relatively low.

History

Throughout its history, Zama was the site of multiple ancient cultures and civilizations; Zama's prehistory reveals some of the earliest evidence of human existence. The area of modern-day Zama formerly consisted of parts of southern Greater Athema and all of Eneda. Through a series of conquests beginning in 1653 with the capture of Eneide, King Gert Lang founded the Kingdom of Zama in 1676.

Conquests of Zama

Following the conquest of Eneide, King Lang became interested in expanding into the tribal lands of Greater Athema and began raiding those lands, but this was opposed by his son due to the danger of direct conflict with the Athemian tribes. During the same time, King Lang's son became disenchanted with his father's policies that appeared to weaken Zamareise traditions and values. As a result, he turned against his father and, after a seven-year fight, defeated him at the Battle of Vokd in 1661 where King Lang was beheaded. In 1676, the seven tribes that made up Zama were united by King Gert Lang to become the Kingdom of Zama.

Royal Era

A significant proportion of the Kingdom of Zama was conquered by the Grand Queendom of Betancourt during its rapid expansion, however, due to the mountainous nature of the nation's geography, the expansion was met with a number of challenges and a strong resistance from local populations. The losses that Betancourt endured during its invasion of Zama have been believed to be one of the primary reasons of the Queendom's collapse.

God's Land War

Following 'Silence of the Zamareise', the Kingdom of Zama directly armed militias in Hiraeth during the God's Land War which helped prolong the 13 years war. The large number of Zamareise causalities in the war was the cause of major distress amongst the population and pushed the Zamareise state into sending more money and guns to the country which had a significantly negative impact on the kingdom's economy and stability.

Geography

Zama's landscape is dominated by numerous mountain ranges and volcanic lava fields. Although there are lakes in the country, Zama is the largest country without a permanent river system.

Demographics

The population of Zama is estimated to be 2,487,091. Zama has witnessed major emigration waves which made the Zamareise diaspora one of the largest diasporas in the world due to the nation's instability and low standards of living.
