Same-sex marriage has been legal in Cordonia since 1 January 2000. Cordonia was the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. Under Cordonia's new elected parliament led by the Liberal Party of Cordonia and PM Cornelius Josten they passed the Equal Marriages Act of 1999 in June 1999 and went into effect the following year.

Most of the country was in support of same-sex marriage being legalized at 67% of the population supporting such a measure. Some opposition came from conservative circles in Ramsford, Vescovi and Domvallier, notably with The Duke of Ramsford opposing same-sex marriage legalization.

Much of the population's support came after The Prince of Rotterdam came out as gay in 1994. That year parliament legalized civil unions nationwide.
