Maria, most commonly known as Maria the Great, is the longest reigning monarch of Tayoma and Canton River Delta (from 1741 until 1832). She came to power following the death of her father and after the regency of her mother. Under her long reign, inspired by the ideas of the west, Canton River Delta experienced a renaissance of culture and sciences, many new cities, universities and theatres were founded, a large number of western immigrants moved to Canton River Delta (especially Tayoma and Canton), and Canton River delta was recognized as one of the great powers of Thuadia.
The period of Maria the Great's rule is known as the Marian Age.
Early life
Maria was born in Edo, as Princess Maria Iso Anna Elizabeth Sakuri. Her mother was Sophia Johanna of Lühalt. Her father, Niko Isi Sakuri, Emperor of Tayoma, Emperor of Canton River Delta, Lord of Edo, was the head of the ruling family of Canton River Delta. In accordance with the custom then prevailing in the ruling dynasty of Tayoma, she received her education chiefly from a governess and from tutors. According to her memoirs, Maria was regarded as a bright and strong child, not only interested in matters of learning but also training herself to master a sword.
Regency
At the age of 12 Maria her father died. This meant that she would become empress once she became of age. In the meantime, her mother, Sophia Lühalt, took over as regent and ruled for 6 years.

Childern
Even though Maria didn't have any children of her own, her life was filled with children.
One of the most important figures Maria raised was Yusa Konno, the first constitutional queen of Yima. Yusa was orphaned after both her parents died in a ship accident that lead to all people on board drowning, she was only 4 when this happened. She was taken in by Maria, who became her mother figure and raised her throughout her childhood and into adulthood. Unfortunately, Yusa was betrothed to the heir of Yima and had to leave Maria to go and marry her soon-to-be husband. This marriage led to a revolution in which the king was overthrown and Yusa was proclaimed queen with a constitution. Maria supported Yusa in her revolution and send many supplies to her in aid. When Yusa had taken the throne, she modelled her new nation after the one of her mother figure. The kingdom of Yima became just like CRD an innovative nation and a close ally to CRD. In 1802 tragedy struck, Yusa had caught a deadly disease and passed away in a matter of weeks. This broke the hearth of Maria, and she went into mourning for a whole year. In the Will of Yusa it was asked if she may be buried in CRD close to Maria and her wish was fulfilled. She was laid to rest in a mausoleum close to the Imperial palace. When Maria died she was laid beside her and later on Catharina joined them.
