Astronomy in Gentu

Astronomy in Gentu is a natural science that studies astronomical objects and phenomena. Objects of interest include planets, moons, stars, nebulae, galaxies, comets, and black holes. Relevant phenomena include supernova explosions, gamma ray bursts, quasars, blazars, pulsars, and cosmic microwave background radiation. More generally, astronomy studies everything that originates beyond Gentu's atmosphere.

Alba Galaxia

The Alba Galaxia (also known as the White Galaxy) is the galaxy that includes the Gentu System. From Gentu, Alba Galaxia appears as a band because its disk-shaped structure is viewed from within. Alba Galaxia is a barred spiral galaxy with an estimated visible diameter of 100,000–200,000 light-years, but only about 1000 light years thick at the spiral arms (more at the bulge). Recent simulations suggest that a dark matter area, also containing some visible stars, may extend up to a diameter of almost 2 million light-years. Alba Galaxia has several satellite galaxies and is part of the Local Group of galaxies, which form part of the Icobar Supercluster, which is itself a component of the Frigano Supercluster. It is estimated to contain 100–400 billion stars and at least that number of planets.
