West Toriany (/iːst ˈtɔːɹi.ən.i/; http://ipa-reader.xyz/?text=%CB%88i%CB%90st%20t%CB%88o%CB%90%C9%B9i%CD%A1%C9%99ni&voice=Enrique listen, Torianian: Nyugat-Tarjánország, /ˈnyu.gat ˈtɒr.jaː.nor.saːɡ/) officially the Torianian Democratic Republic (Torianian: Tarjánország Demokratikus Köztársaság) is a country in Atusia located along the Gulf of Toriany and makes up a land area of Xkm2 (X sq mi). It shares land borders with X to the west, X to the north, East Toriany to the east and X to the south. It was historically a part of Toriany. West Toriany has a population of around 16.9 million. The capital city is Delotthona.

The area which West Toriany comprises of has been inhabited since as early as the lower paleolithic period. Historically, the territory has been a crossroads for numerous nomadic peoples and tribes, including the Tors, Huans and the Hausmins. The foundation of the initialy Torianian state originates from the conquest of the tarján tribe into the region from northern Atusia, lead by the grand leader Gyula.

Etymology

The native Torianian name, Tarjánország, is composed of Tarján (an original Uralic tribe that the people originate from) and ország ('country'). The name Tarján in reference to the people of Toriany accurately reflects the name of the country in other Hausmin languages that spread across Atusia where it is known as Tarjánülke. The word tarján is taken directly from the group of the same name which was a major family of the nomadic Troianian tribes.

Foreign Relations

West Toriany is considered a middle power by some, however it has significant influence in north Atusia. West Toriany is closely alligned with Kuthra, and have been historically for the last century. The two share a close relationship, maintaining a friendship treaty signed in 2001. West Toriany is a founding member of the International Socialist Community and is considered a key backer of Singulform. West Toriany is a socialist state by constitution, and internationalism is an important factor in it's foreign policy. The state also believes in achieving international socialism. Along with other socialist states, West Toriany is a founding member of the Red Trade Association (RTA) which trade freely amongst one another. They are also a member of the United Nations.

West Toriany is notable for it's intense rivalry with neighbouring East Toriany, which finds its origins in the partition of Toriany during the Third World War when the West was supported by socialist Kuthra and East was supported by the capitalist world, particularly by the United Federation of Merillia. This ended in conflict during the war, and later in the 1974 Torianian War. The relations between the two remain unstable, with the border being heavily guarded at all times to prevent movement. In recent years it has only worsened, with East Torianian President Miksa Árpád speakinh on his worries for the future with West Torianian preisdent Marton Barna. West Toriany dispute the Zarga Region of East Toriany, which has caused a flare up in relations
