The Vœyetska Hockey League (Vœyetskan: Vœyetska Höðar Læd Denzali: Voteska hockei Iede French: Championnat d'Vojede de hockey sur glace Estovian: Viimtdrija jäähokjīgo) is an international Ice hockey league primarily located in Vœyetska. The league consists of 48 teams from 4 countries—37 in Vœyetska, 6 in Denzal, 4 in Sateroc, and 2 in Estovia. The VHL is one of the most popular leagues in Euronia and one of the top leagues in the world in terms of revenue. Teams in the league annually compete for the Lindbeck Köp which was donated by former Vœyetskan Prime Minister Nils Lindbeck to the Vœyetska Ishöðarforantið.
Preceding the founding of the Vœyetska Hockey League, the top leagues of Vœyetska were the Vœyetska Ishöðarforantið and the Allsvœyet. The Vœyetska Ishöðarforantið (VI) was founded in 1920 with 6 teams in its original season, all based in Vœyetska. The VI helped popularize the sport in the nation, especially among the youth. The Allsvœyet was founded in 1936 with 6 teams as well to contest the VI. By the time, the VI had shrunk down to 5 teams. By the early 1940s, the Allsvœyet was generally more popular than its rival because of its wider range of locations. The Allsvœyet also became the first ever league based in Vœyetska to be consistently broadcast on live television. In 1957 the leagues merged into one to spread the sport around the nation as well as economic benefits.
Since the merger of the leagues, the VHL headquarters have been located on the western side of Koarsalburg. Formerly, the VI was based in Sjédal and the Allsvœyet headquarters was located outside of Alikan.
The Lehkinsi Jokers have won the Lindbeck Köp most times with 12 VHL titles since entering the league. The Groblaa Walleye were the most recent champions, who defeated the Filipsvinn Cosmos in the 2022-23 season finals.
History
Vœyetska Ishöðarforantið
Following the transformation of Vœyetska going from the Unified Kingdom of Vœyetska to the Vœyetska nearing the turn of the century, Vœyetska witnessed an sudden climb in population mainly composed of immigrants. A fraction of those immigrants coming to Vœyetska from 1888 to 1910 happened to be from where it is now present-day Saint Offeat. By 1900, Saint Offeatians had spread across the country and brought their tradition of ice hockey with them. In the next five years, some of the wealthier immigrants began operating outdoor ice rinks in the winter months. The fast-paced game was well-liked by young Vœyetskans and appealed to many as an engaging pass-time well suited for the colder weather. Ice hockey became increasingly common and by 1910 Vœyetska's capital city, Sjédal had 6 outdoor rinks in full operation as well as 2 indoor rinks used for hosting small hockey tournaments for both the youth and adults.
