The Kingdom of Varigia

Varigia is a nation that originated from a rebellion against the now defunct Kardavian Empire. It occupies the northwestern tip of the Carsan peninsula. With its capital in Vultira, it remains one of the most powerful kingdoms in the Ardean region. It was founded in 2E 24, after decades of fighting against the Kardavians.

History

Pre-Kardav-Varigian War

Varigia’s history starts long before its official independence in 2E 24. Varigian cultures existed for centuries, however they only existed as fragmented city states and small kingdoms. In the period of 1E 17 - 1E 251, life in this time was simple, as most diplomacy was simply local between neighboring cities. There were a few notable nations in this time, including but not limited to: Kassa-Leptha, Vonar, Nivik, Casethonia, and Riks.

Kardav-Varigian War

Unfortunately, this period of peace eventually had to come to an end. In the years 1E 260 - 1E 295, the Kardavian Empire, having grown from a small citystate comparable to those in the Varigian region, invaded the entire area. They invaded every city-state in the region, occupying large swaths of land at a time. The Varigian cultures couldn’t put up a good defense as the city-states rarely initiated contact with anyone outside of their immediate vicinity, so no communications were in place to allow for a proper coordinated defense.

Kardavian Occupation

After the Kardavian invasion came a long period of occupation. It wasn’t at all peaceful for most of its time, as Varigian rebellions occurred often and, over time, would gain more numbers each time they were defeated. One of these early Varigian rebellions nearly beat the Kardavians, known as the Emerald Rebellion. The long period of occupation (although unstable) lasted from 1E 300 - 1E 816.

Rebellion

Finally, after centuries of Kardavian occupation, the Varigian rebellions began to get more organized and powerful enough to begin beating the Kardavians. In XX XXX, the Varigian Militia was formed, marking the first time there would be a united Varigian power. Over the course of XX years, the Varigian Militia constantly battled the Kardavians. The decisive Battle of Skarstal finally earned them their independence as the Kardavians signed a peace treaty not long after.
