The Kogami Clan (Japanese: 高上氏 Kogamishi) affectionately nicknamed the "南方出身の武道家" (Nanpō shusshin no budōka, "southern-born martial artists") is a renowned family in Orientia. The Kogami is known for being an awakened family that's been involved in the independence, economy and social life of Orientia.
Overview
The Kogami Family Clan is the most prominent family clan in Orientia. They're known as a family of business, education, and the arts. Many of the family members are educators who holds high positions in universities and schools throughout the country, for example, Kogami Kojiro is the President of Chiba University, while Fahima Hakim is the President of Universitas Padjadjaran in Amenria. Some of the members also holds prominent positions in the government, mostly in government-owned businesses or ministries, with those from Fajrianto family runs the Ministry of Housing and Development. Few of the members also owns businesses in Orientia, such as Panon, ALIA Furnitures and Baum Constructions.
The family crest of the Kogami Clan is a symbolic representation that carries deep meaning within the clan's identity. It consists of two essential elements: the abalone meat and the chrysanthemum.
The abalone meat, featured prominently, signifies the clan's inherent protective nature. It mirrors their commitment to safeguarding and nurturing those within their circle. This emblematic representation stands as a testament to the Kogami Clan's enduring role as guardians, encompassing their care and concern for the well-being of their community. Also, it signifies the clan's origin from the southern hemisphere, which reflects their roots while simultaneously emphasizing their growth and expansion across Orientia.
Alongside the abalone, the chrysanthemum conveys the twin values of significance and longevity that are at the core of the clan's legacy. Just as the chrysanthemum thrives over time and holds cultural significance, the Kogami Clan's impact persists through generations, leaving an indelible mark on Orientia's history.
History
The first seeds of the ideas that would once become the Kogami clan came to the mind of its founder and current Patriarch, Mugen, following his naturalization to be a Japanese citizen in 2034. Seeing how his family was in the center of political disputes between his ██████████ paternal and maternal family, he determined to make a proper, family clan that'd unite both, hoping to cease any division between them.
He finally conceived the clan in 2035, with his father as the first patriarch. The two family (Jungmann family and Sayyid family) would later incorporated to the clan, but retain their original surnames as the clan surname are given only to the first degree relatives and the 3rd generation from each families. All incorporated family members were offered to change their surnames to Japanese, but some refused, and decided to make their own surname, though remain as the member of the clan. Which, makes the Fajrianto family, Noorzaman family are still part of the clan, also the Hakim family, Ar-Rizq family and Ra'is family in Amenria are still closely related.
Organization
Admission and Membership
The Kogami clan does not accept anyone with no blood relation as their member. However, they are more than open to anyone (from any gender and species) willing to cooperate, work for, and to join the clan through marriage. The process for anyone wishes to work for the family is not unlike job interviews; where applicants are required to fulfil some specific requirements (usually skill, academics related), interviewed and undergo some tests. For those who are willing to cooperate or join the clan through marriage, undergo a much relaxed process, where they only need to have an open discussion with the clan.
Those who passed the application process to work for the clan, are given the clan's handbook, and have to go through three weeks of internship in the Kogami Estate. After the internship, they will be given the clan's pin and a pair of smart glass or bracelet.
Structure
Mugen is the founder and current Patriarch of the Kogami Clan. Despite being the founder, he has responsibility to report to the First Elder. The Advisor (usually his younger sibling) reports, and supports the Patriarch. The Council of Elders consist of the First Elder, and Second Elder (first and second generation relatives from incorporated and related families). Third generation relatives not part of the main clan are part of the Council of Elders, while those from the main clan (even those who refused to change their surname/branch families) are part of the Grand Council; reports to the Patriarch and Matriarch. Only the third generation relatives, that are part of the main clan, are allowed to show support for any of the heir(s) in the patriarch election. In case the patriarch abdicates, the advisor takes the temporary role, while the Matriarch holds discussions and an election. An heir with the most votes is chosen as the patriarch, while the heir(s) with less/least votes takes the role of the advisor. In case there are more than two heir(s) or more with less votes, they are required to make a Council of Advisors.
