The Senate of Austeria (Tethian: Senati i Austrisë), commonly referred to as simply Congress, is the unicameral legislature of Austeria. According to the Constitution of Austeria, the Senate reflects the popular will of the Austerian people and thus is ultimately the supreme authority of the country.
The Senate is the direct successor of the National Congress of Austeria, the legislature of the Equalist Republic from 1947 to 1990, and inherited its functions, authority, and its common name. The Senate has the authority to direct the internal and external policies of Austeria, approving and amending the constitution and laws, approving the state budget, ratifying international treaties, granting amnesty, defining the "administrative and territorial structure" of the country, and deciding on popular referendums. It also approves the appointment of the Premier of Austeria, the Council of Ministers, and the Supreme Court of Austeria. The Senate consists of 125 seats elected by nationwide party-list proportional representation with six additional seats reserved for the Montsurian, Novalian, Piraean, Coian, Etrurian, and Atudite minority communities. A member of the Senate is known as a Senator, who serve a term for four years.
It is currently the 9th session of the Senate since the founding of the second republic. In the 2022 election, the July Bloc maintained a strong majority in the Senate which allowed Alexandru Minovici to remain as Premier. The next elections are scheduled for 2026.
