The Lappland Coast Guard is the Lappland Home Defense Branch dedicated to patrolling the nation's coastline, both for national defense and search and rescue. The Coast Guard Headquarters are located in Kiuruvesi with other notable stations located primarily along their eastern and western coastlines. The branch also conducts port security at Lappland's major ports.

The Marine Response Service (Gaddi Vástádus Bálvalus) is the Coast Guard's special operations force to respond to incidents in Lappland's waters or ports. Most Coast Guard stations contain a GVB section. The GVB is trained in CQB, VBSS, air assault, airborne deployment and more.

History

The Coast Guard was established in 1901 and tasked with safeguarding Lappland's national waters and protect merchant vessels traveling within the waters. The first Coast Guard vessels were converted fishing boats who's crews were equipped with a variety of bolt-action rifles and shotguns.
