The 1985 Besmenian federal election in Besmenia took take place on September 1, 1985. It was the election of the 18th Federal Chamber. The Free Besmenian Citizen's Party led by Martin Beiter remained the largest faction in parliament, with Beiter remaining Premier in a FBBP-SDU coalition.

Background

In the 1981 federal election, the Free Besmenian Citizen's Party (FBBP) became the strongest force with 31.2% of the vote, followed by the Besmenian People's Party (BVP) with 28.4% and the Social Democratic Union (SDU) with 16.1%. While the FBBP was able to gain votes, the BVP and SDU lost a significant number of votes. The Besmenian Republican Party (BRP) gained slightly in votes, reaching 10.0%. The Green Party of Besmenia gained slightly in votes and reached 6.0%. The Besmenian Libertarian Party (BELP), with 3.1%, was unable to return to the Federal Chamber, of which it was a member from 1968 to 1976. All other parties that competed played no role with a total of 2.9% of the votes received.

Electoral system

427 members are elected to the Besmenian Federal Chamber for four years. The federal territory is divided into 158 regional constituencies. There is a preliminary investigation at every level.
