'''Aiden Avery''' was the 9th [[President of Zamastan]]. President Avery’s most notable act in his first year in office was the passing of the Individual-Armament Act, which created a system of background checks for guns effective enough to stop the purchasing of firearms by people with certain mental health disorders, people with violent pasts, and people who couldn’t pass a one hundred question test about gun safety. Crime rates, specifically murders, significantly decreased, and gun deaths both accidental, intentional, or via suicide dropped from the 10th leading cause of death to the 64th leading cause of death. The results identify that the law greatly improved the overall safety of the nation without hindering too greatly on the rights of lawful gun owners.

Aiden Avery was the 28th President of Zamastan.

Avery also passed a tax break amidst the roaring Zamastanian economy that benefited lower income families while also changing the rates (though less extensively) for incomes higher than $60,000 a year. However, a controversial passing of a tax increase for previously held health care plans made Zamastanians lose faith in Avery, and he lost his reelection bid in 1982 to Damian Lorrie.

On February 7th, 2019, Avery suffered a severe heart attack which rendered him incapable of motion. He was hospitalized at Duncan Veteran's Hospital in Duncan, Zamastan. He passed away on February 12th, 2019.

Early Life

Aiden Avery was born on February 10th, 1935 in Orilian, Pahl. He was the son of his father - a mining executive, and his stay-at-home mother. He was educated in Abagene's public school districts in the early stages of Zamastan's education system.

Professional Career

Avery was motivated by his father to be an executive of a company by the time he graduated university, though he eventually opted to study at law school. He earned a PhD and a bachelors and found work as an attorney at a law firm in Emerald.

Presidency

Aiden Avery was elected to the presidency in 1980, after defeating incumbent President Quinn Werner in what turned out to be one of the closest elections in Zamastanian history.

Avery was most known in his presidency for his gun-reform legislation which included the Individual-Armament Act. The IAA created a system of background checks for guns effective enough to stop the purchasing of firearms by people with certain mental health disorders, people with violent pasts, and people who couldn’t pass a one hundred question test about gun safety. The legislation was deemed radical by many members of the opposing side of his own party: the Blue Conservatives. Though infighting with the party persisted, the bill passed and within three years of its signing, crime rates, specifically murders, significantly decreased, and gun deaths both accidental, intentional, or via suicide dropped from the 10th leading cause of death to the 64th leading cause of death. Experts today say that results identify the law greatly improved the overall safety of the nation without hindering too greatly overall on the rights of lawful gun owners.

Avery also became famous for passing tax breaks, even with his more liberal set of views due to his alignment with the Liberal Party despite being a registered and voting-recorded conservative. In 1981, in the midst of the roaring Zamastanian economy, the Avery's Cut bill was passed with bipartisan support. The bill benefited lower income families while also changing the rates (though less extensively) for incomes higher than $60,000 a year.

However successful many of his legislative acts were, a controversial and rare passing of a tax increase in mid-1982 for people who previously held health care plans made during the Elene Abotsford presidency made many Zamastanians lose faith in Avery. On top of the unpopular tax increase, Avery was widely seen as uncharismatic as opposed to some up and coming politicians such as Cassious Castovia and Cormac Hammer, a member of the Liberal party. He lost his reelection bid in 1982 to Damian Lorrie, who took the mantle of President.

Post-Presidency

Following his loss to Lorrie in 1982, Avery retired from the public service life and settled down in a home with his wife in Duncan.

Death and Legacy

On February 7th, 2019, Avery suffered a severe heart attack which rendered him incapable of motion. He was hospitalized at Duncan Veteran's Hospital in Duncan, Zamastan. He passed away on February 12th, 2019.
