Alaina, Crown Princess of Sudmark (Alaina Sophie Roberta Teresa; b. 8 August 1992) is daughter of Arthur XI of Gelonia and Alexandra of Garza, and a member of the Gelonian Royal Family. She is the wife of Frederick, Crown Prince of Sudmark, heir apparent to the Monarchy of Sudmark. At the time of her birth, she was third in the line of succession to the Gelonian throne; currently she is fourth.

Early life

Alaina Roberta Teresa Adelaide was born at 9:12 am on 8 August 1994 at St Adeodatus University Hospital, the second daughter of then Arthur, Duke of Oxonia and Alexandra of Garza. She was baptized into the Church of Gelonia on 19 November 1994. Her godparents are Garlan, King of Gaemar (her mother’s brother); Alice of Montgisard (Garlan’s wife and her father’s cousin); Teresa, Duchess of Beroea (her father’s sister); and Prince Theodosius, Duke of Beroea (Teresa’s husband). She was named Alaina for her great-grandfather Alan V.

Prior to her father’s ascension in 2012, Alaina was primarily raised alongside her brother and sisters at Kastell Roue, in Oxonia.

Education

Alaina began her primary education at [school]. Like her elder sister Lena, Alaina enrolled at St Corentin boarding school for secondary school. She was a member of the debate club, where her team finished second in the under-18 national championship. Alaina was also a member of the school choir. She earned her bac from St Corentin in 2011, with honors.

Early on, Alaina stated her intent to attend a Gelonian university. She reportedly enrolled at St Riothamus College, but following a six-month gap term, she enrolled at Oxonia City University. Alaina studied public policy in university, and participated in foreign exchange programs at the University of Ghish. In her second year at City University, Alaina also added the political science focus to her studies. She graduated in 2015 with dual degrees.

Immediately following her graduation, Alaina enrolled at the Haribec School of International Affairs at the University of Ghish. While Alaina attended Haribec, she resided at the Imperial Palace in Ghish, but by Christmast 2015 took up residence in a townhouse rented by the Gelonian Royal Family, where she lived with two other classmates. Alaina earned a master's degree from Haribec in 2017.

Personal interests

Alaina participated in her first national interview in 2013 when her school competed in the U-18 national debate championship. Though she was given high praise for her handling of the interview, Alaina admitted to being “quite nervous” and “camera shy” throughout the interview. She deferred to other members of her team and included them in discussion throughout the interview. Comments following the interview noted Alaina as humble, intelligent, and soft and well spoken.

Like her other siblings, Alaina is an ice hockey fan and supporter of Liga Magna side HC Gwer Durnovaria. In her youth, Alaina took ice skating lessons and participated in youth figure skating programs to meet children her age. She competed in figure skating until the age of 17, however she continues to skate regularly.

Marriage

Alaina scarcely courted throughout her upbringing. In 2016, it was speculated that Alaina would begin courting a member of the Gelonian high nobility, as her sister’s husband had just inherited the Ghantish Kingdom of Gaemar. Alaina’s sister unexpectedly becoming Queen consort of Gaemar in 2016 prompted concerns of a future personal union between Gelonia and Gaemar, with some suggesting Lena, Princess Royal would disclaim herself to avoid such a union. However, Lena ended such speculation a month after becoming Queen of Gaemar by stating that she had “no intention of abdicating” and would raise her children in the Church of Gelonia to avoid a personal union.

Alaina’s first and only public courtship came as she neared completion of her master’s degree in late 2017. The royal families of Gelonia and Sudmark confirmed that Frederick, Crown Prince of Sudmark and Alaina were courting. Due to Alaina’s studies, she and Frederick largely communicated via telephone and were limited to when they could spend time together. Alaina and Frederick courted throughout 2018, and were spotted together in Gelonia and Sudmark, at official events and in their leisure time.

On 11 November 2018, both royal families announced the engagement of Alaina and Frederick, a week following the proposal. Alaina promptly relocated to Soddenburg, and took up residence in a private townhouse. During her engagement, Alaina maintained an office in the Royal Palace, and regularly participated in royal duties with Frederick.

Alaina and Frederick were married on 22 July 2019, in Soddenburg. She became Crown Princess of Sudmark by virtue of her marriage to Frederick.
