The Coup d'etat of April 13, 2019 was a political event that took place in the Republic of La Boca on Saturday, April 13, 2019 as a result of popular protests due to alleged electoral fraud. A major economic crisis that triggered inflation and increased the poverty rate aggravated the existing crisis.

Consequences of the crisis and road to the coup

The then Prime Minister, the centrist Gabriel José Saldarini, and the then President, the social democrat Alejo Irazábal from the outset sought to take measures to alleviate the crisis, such as increasing the percentage of public spending or improving the reserves of the Central Bank of the Republic of La Boca, an unsuccessful measure that resulted in the rapid increase in inflation up to 350% (data of a few days before the coup). In response to the protests and popular clamor, together with political ineffectiveness, the Popular Army of the Republic of La Boca urged the day before the coup Saldarini and Irazábal to take measures against the crisis promptly and that if that did not happen in 24 hours, the Commanders themselves would take control of the country. On April 13, 2019, early in the morning, the Army entered Quilmes under the command of Gen. Abdulrrahman Azizi and the Cnel. Yusuf Moussa Ali, who arrested Prime Minister Saldarini and President Irazábal. Then they took the other buildings in importance to end the coup mission, the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the mass media. In his first message to the country, Azizi referred to an alleged "corruption and commissure of crimes" by the previous government that resulted in the coup.
