China (Chinese: 中國), officially known as the Republic of China (Chinese: 中華民國), is a country in East Asia. China's landscape is relatively inconsistent, ranging from the fertile northern territories to the subtropical forests in the wetter south to the rolling deserts and mountains in the west. The Tibetan Plateau and Everest mountain range separate China from its neighbouring country, Nepal. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is over 15,300 kilometres long and is bounded by the Yellow, Philippine, East, and South China Seas. China is a republic with a unitary consitutional parliamentary republic, with its capital based in Nanjing City, China's capital city is considered as political and cultural centre envisioned by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. With a population of 27 million and a land area of 11,077,380km2, China is one of the largest nations in Asia in terms of both population and territory. The nation was a founding member of the WLFD, and today remains a leading economic power within the region and the world.

Since ancient times, Nanjingese, Pekingese and other Chinese cultures have flourished in the territory of present-day China. For centuries the dynasties remained the leading political and religious centre of Asian civilisation, ruling over vast swathes of territory throughout the modern continent.

China is a key cultural centre for the arts and science, boasting a rigorous and world-renowned education system. Chinese universities, most notably the Universities of National Central and National Tsinghua, are some of the most prestigious in Asia. As a member of WESCO, China also has a large number of internationally recognised heritage sites ranging from ancient Chinese constructions to modernist architectural sites from the Twentieth Century. Although the post-war era was marred with economic and social unrest due to the global depression and the rise of communism, in recent years China has been able to reclaim its position as a leading nation within world politics. China has the largest economy in terms of PPP and Nominal GDP. The Chinese market consists of both private- and state-owned businesses, although private businesses dominate the economic landscape. China's economy is led by the manufacturing and information technology sectors with major contributions from agriculture and tourism. China ranks high in terms of education, healthcare, life expectancy, public transport and human development and boasts one of the most skilled labour forces, relative to other Asian economies which are largely service-sector based. As a regional military power in Asia, and one of the few nuclear-weapon states, the Chinese republic remains a leading force globally.
