Early life and education

Eirene was born on 7 December 1974, at the Golden Palace in Castellum, as the 8th and youngest child of Diana I Anicia and Leo X Claudius. Her name was announced 9 days after her birth as is tradition. She was named Theophylacta for her mother's uncle, Theophylactus, Duke of Ossonoba, and Paulina for her ancestor Paulina Claudia. She was baptized on 19 March 1975, at, by Patriarch of Alba Thomas Appuleius, with the baptismal name of Eirene. Her godparents are Peter, Duke of Keld (her father's cousin); Amelia of Ravenna (Peter's wife and her mother's close friend); Andrea of Ossonoba (her mother's cousin); and John III, Elector of Mosela (Andrea's husband).

She was referred to as "Thea" among family as a young child, but struggled to say her full name of Theophylacta. When she was 5, she began being referred to by her baptismal name, Eirene; however, her mother continues to refer to Eirene as "Thea".

Eirene was educated by a series of private tutors, in lieu of attending schooling. As with her older sister Christina, one of Eirene's primary tutors was John Makrembolites, the former provost of Pescia Academy. Eventually, Eirene enrolled at St. Sophia's School for Girls, in Castellum. She earned her bac from St. Sophia in 1992. Eirene then began studying XXXX at St Marina College, Haenna. While at St Marina, Eirene was noted for her spirited lifestyle and frequent party-going with friends. She took a year off in 1995, and earned her degree in 1997.
