Glades is a city in the Zamastanian Province of Pahl, and is the 8th most-populous in the country with a population of 4,563,000. Glades originated as numerous Catica First Nations settlements on the banks of the Louise River. Albertone, now a city neighborhood, was the first Adulan settlement, laid out in 1799 by Quetanan trekers. The city was founded in 1808, at the confluence of the Louise and Antangy rivers, and laid out to become the first provincial capital, though it was later designated to Emerald in 1872 and then Alanis in 1898. The city was named for Skithan explorer Giatro Glades. Amid steady years of growth and industrialization, the city has experienced numerous floods and recessions. Beginning in the 1950s, Glades began to experience significant growth; it became the third-largest city in Pahl by the early 1990s. The 1990s and 2000s saw redevelopment in numerous city neighborhoods, including downtown.

The city has a diverse economy based on education, government, insurance, banking, defense, aviation, food, clothes, logistics, steel, energy, medical research, health care, hospitality, retail, and technology. The metropolitan area is home to the Glades Orris Institute, one of the world's largest private research and development foundations.
