Jarnowa, officially the Jarnowan Commonwealth (Jarnmisa: Byjesztrehozok U'jaarnmnowa) is a state located at the eastern coastline of Athenia. Covering an area of more than 1 million kilometres (1,065,164 km²), the Commonwealth borders Zturich, Anhtar and Adenbreurer, a territory of Aftenheim, to the north.

Jarnowa is currently governed as a federal technocratic dictatorship by the TPCJ (Technocratic Party of the Commonwealth of Jarnowa). Jarnowa is a permanent member of the G8 and a founding member of several alliances and regional cooperation organizations such as the Joqaamr Treaty Organization, Jarnowa-LucaMiclea-Jabanese Pact (JLJ), Daskurgen Compact, Jisinian Infrastructure Investment Bank and Jarnowan-Anhtaran Cooperation Organisation. It ranks poorly in international measurements of civil liberties, government transparency, freedom of the press, and ethnic minorities. The Jarnowan authorities have been criticized by political dissidents and human rights activists for widespread human rights abuses, including political repression and mass censorship.

History

Ancient History

The first Jisinian state by the name of Aztrasnkaate Kingdom emerged from the Aztrasnkaate tribe in 150 BC. Ruled by king Samnthi Aartrizsnan, often unofficially called lord father Samnthi Aartrizsnan, it quickly became a major Athenian power, at its founding being the only existing state in northern Athenia.

As the Kingdom was conquering its neighboring tribes and expanding, its capital of Kaarkeaph, located at the Jarn river, became home to incredible wealth, which allowed for the construction of the supermassive stone palaces known as Fristhramnidis, which stand to this very day.

This incredible wealth however caused that many tribes, mostly from central Athenia, became interested in gaining power over the city. And so they did. In 95 BC, a coalition of Miquellian tribes successfully conquered Kaarkeaph and the Aztrasnkaate Kingdom fell apart. Yet the civilization was not destroyed, as the Miquellian tribes adopted the Aztrasnkaaten culture, knowledge and technology and soon started to reconquer former Aztrasnkaate Kingdom's territories, now as the Mokivtzus Empire.

In 80 BC, a number of Jisinian kingdoms arose in the vast Jarn river basin. In 78 BC, three of those kingdoms, namely Jitkraa, Gruazhjar, and Paaltrindar, joined forces and launched a unified offensive against the Mokivtzus Empire. After 6 years of a bloody war which lead to nothing, they were unexpectedly joined in their efforts by a number of Caltyc nomadic tribes which came from the north. Soon after, the Mokivtzus Empire fell and Kaarkeaph came under Jisinian control once again. The Caltyc nomads did a series of raids on it a year later, but none was successful.

A Jisinian empire was not rebuild for a third time and for the next roughly one hundred years, the lands of the Jarn river were filled with various smaller independent Jisinian and Miquellian kingdoms, with Kaarkeaph serving just as the capital of the United Jitgrupaal Kingdom, which arose from the kingdoms of Jitkraa, Gruazhjar, and Paaltrindar.

Era Of City States

In 150BC, the tribe of Aztrasnkaate established a primitive city state, first of its kind in the Jarnowan lands. This started the so called 'Era of City States', during which numerous city states based on the Jarn river vied for supremacy over one another. There were 3 dominant city states - Aztrasnkaateia, the first city state, which achieved dominant technological advancement; Kaerkea, the heavily military-focused one and Hfnestawa, a pact of smaller city states from the more western parts of Jarn, which cooperated together in the matters of foreign policy. Other states existed during the period but were much shorter lived. The balance of power often changed as temporal alliances were forged or broken.

Great Sailerkh Kingdom

The House of Sailerkh, originally based in Hguolp, at the time led by Vajndijk Krantaph Sailerkh, through a long historical process gained power over 3 larger city states, each ruled by one of the 3 branches of the House. In 98AD, two years after the Sailerkhs gained power in Visbokrajt, Vajndijk Krantaph Sailerkh announced the forming of a centralised Great Sailerkh Kingdom, officially marking the end of the Era of the City States. Just a few months after the forming, the GSK, which was up to this point divided into two parts, as Kriaksa controlled the land dividing Visbokrajt from Aztrasnkaateia, successfully annexed all lands in between the former city states, unifying the political entity geographically. The Kingdom then quickly asserted absolute dominance in the region, conquering the whole of Kriaksa, a former regional power, in the next 5 years. Fast forwards to 20 years later, the GSK, after numerous conflicts, compromised of over 28 former city states, becoming by far the largest geopolitical entity to ever exist in the Jarn lands. WIP

Era Of Raids

In 910, Kukkuns, powerful nomadic raiders, invaded and in less than a year of bloodbath gained absolute control of the Jarnowan lands after the Sailerkh Kingdom, the leader of the resistance against Kukkuns, fell and split into 3 separate, less-powerful states. The Kukkun reign of the Jarnowan lands lasted till 1245, when the already failing Kukkun Kingdom wasn't able to manage the whole area anymore and the Jarnowan states piece by piece broke free.

Age Of Prosperity

Jisinian Realm

In 1772, the Jisinian Confederation by the hands of Laspinian royalty transformed into a centralised Jisinian Realm, with Kikirs IV. Praeskir, the head of the most influential Laspinian house, being crowned the Emperor. By 1800, the Realm conquered many of the northern non-confederation Jisinian states, with the intention of becoming the very first pan-Jisinian empire. These effort continued to the year of 1815, when the last standing independent Jisinian state of Mnisklowa fell under the Realm's control. In the same year, Emperor Kikirs IV. died at the age of 65, but the Praeskir dynasty continued ruling the Realm for the next 68 years. In 1826, the Jisinian Realm defeated the Aftenheimish colony of Adenbreuren in the Adenbreuren War (1815–1826), securing its access to the Gulf of Adenbreuren, and started a process nowadays known as the 'Calt Genocide'. In the north, after the successful Jisinian-Caltyc Wars of 1853 against the numerous Caltyc Kingdoms, the Realm advanced its boundary to the Aftenheimish protectorate of Lalinia, with which it entered into a non-aggression pact in 1857. During the late reign of the Praeskir dynasty, the Jisinian Realm experienced massive economic growth and technological development as a result of extensive international trade.

Under the succeeding Granzjidar dynasty, the Jisinian Realm reached its peak by conquering numerous islands in the Great Athenian Gulf, and, after the Central Athenian Wars (1885-1890), puppeting 3 Miquellian kingdoms. These territorial and influencial expansions were done at the expense of the standards of living in most of the non-Jarnowan parts of the country, which, unlike Laspinia, Cwirken, Qarw, Vajduszard and Malfinia (the historical states now making the Jarnowan Commonwealth), have been severely underinvested in the long term. Civil unrest in the more northern regions of the Realm started increasing.

In 1890, the head of the Cersejzkan royal house of Zturnirpk, Rotvrnopt VI., requested a semi-autonomy for the Lands of the Cersejzkan Crown. Emperor Krigt III. refused, but offered to give the Cersejzkan royalty extra privileges. Around this time, the so called 'Cersejzkan National Revival' movement started. It is unknown whether it was supported by the royals or not, but the Cersejzkan people started organizing 'protest attacks' against various institutions, with the intention of saving the Cersejzkan national identity and liberating the nation from the 'Southern Jisinian Oppressors' who are 'in absolute control of the Jisinian Realm'. Soon after, the Fratkiran and Jutkiran people also joined the movement, which quickly turned into an anti-JR rebellion. After a more radical wing of the movement attacked the Royal Palace in Kaarke, the Granzjidars, who took it all as obviously planned by the Cersejzkan royalty, decided to send the army to the Cersejzkan capital of Cotwikrata and punish Rotvrnopt VI.. His killing on the night of 15th April of 1894 is considered the start of the Jisinian Realm Civil War.

... (civil war and aftenheim's invasion)

Aftenheim retreated its soldiers from the Jisinian states and agreed to keep the old Adenbreuren borders in 1914. The Jarnowan Confederation, in fear of a complete collapse, decided to transform into the Jarnowan Kingdom. Due to the very hectic and uncertain times, it was ruled as a provisionary dual monarchy by 2 kings - Cwirkenese Palew II. and Laspinian Gretpherneltir I.. While the Kingdom was dealing with severe economic and stability issues, which were only getting worse, a former military general Leo Thrikrich and his Technocratic Party started building a private army. Being a trusted and experienced military general, many from what was left of the Jarnowan Army defected to his side right away. During the so called 'Revolutionary Half a Year', the Technocratic Party launched numerous propaganda campaigns all around the Jarnowan Kingdom against the 'weak and incompetent royals', supporting the ideas of a 'strong, experienced and knowledgeable technocratic leadership, which will return the South Jisinian people theirs glory and revenge all the fallen', combined with various other usually strongly xenophobic and ultra-nationalist slogans. In 1915, the Technocratic Party launched the 'needed forceful revolution'. The Royal Palace in Kaarke fell just 2 weeks later. Both kings got publicly executed and on the 13th of July, Leo Thrikrich announced the formation of the Jarnowan Commonwealth.

Jarnowan Commonwealth

From 1915 to 1916, royals all around Jarnowan Commonwealth were tracked down and killed, with the Technocratic Party, now officially renamed to Technocratic Party of the Commonwealth of Jarnowa, taking all their things, such as palaces or fortresses, into its ownership.

World War I

In 1920, the Jarnowan Commonwealth, still recovering from the Jisinian Realm Civil War, declared, together with all of the post-Jisinian Realm states, except of Adenbreuren, a complete neutrality in the upcoming global conflict. In 1922, Lord Father Leo Thrikrich allowed the export of weaponry and materials to the fighting nations on both sides of the conflict, the biggest importer becoming New Jabanese, with which, amongst others, the Commonwealth developed fairly friendly relations. In the later stage of the war, a threat to the neutrality of Jarnowa emerged, as Aftenheim supposedly became interested in its last remaining colonial possession, the Maalkam Islands. While nothing ever actually happened, it started talks between the leaderships of Jarnowa and New Jabanese on the security of both, now relatively close, nations.

Interwar period

After the war ended (1924), the talks between Jarnowa and New Jabanese continued and their possible result was more important than ever, as the defeated New Jabanese became in need of a guarantee of stability. The Commonwealth immediately agreed on quite massively helping with repairs and just 2 months after the war the Jarnowan-Jabanese Cooperation Agreement Organization was officially created. In 1930, the organization transformed into a military alliance by the name of Jarnowan-Jabanese Defensive Military Pact For Peace, JJ for short. The Commonwealth saw a significant economic boom in the interwar period, which started with its massive trade and exports in the WW1, and quickly became the richest nation amongst all the post-Jisinian Realms ones, if we were to count Adenbrauren as an independent entity. The sudden inflow of money was used well, as TPCJ used it as an opportunity to start building Jarnowa's influnce once again, while also actively investing in technology research and infrastructure.

In 1932, the fragile Antharese goverment was toppled and a new Jarnowan puppet government was established.

In 1933, Jarnowa entered an alliance with a failed Aftenheimish colony of Versal. This alliance was named after the Versan city in which the official formation documents were signed in - Daskurgen Compact.

World War II TBD

Postwar period

After the end of the Second World War (1951), when the geopolitical dominance of Aftenheim and its allies was well established, LucaMiclea asked for membership in the JJ. After a series of talks, it officially joined in 1952 and the alliance got renamed to Jarnowa-LucaMiclea-Jabanese Pact, or JLJ for short. This sparked the idea of establishing a global anti-Aftenheimish alliance which could change the balance of power in the world. In 1960, the leaders of Jarnowa, New Jabanese, LucaMiclea, Versal, Anhtar and Faraya met in the Jarnowan city of Joqaamr and agreed on establishing the Joqaamr Treaty Organization.

Government and Politics

While the Jarnowan constitution states that the Jarnowan Commonwealth "is a technocratic state based on the ideas of democracy and freedom that is led to prosperity by 2 fathers of the people" and the TPCJ officially states Jarnowa is a "democratic dual technocracy", the country is commonly described as a semi-democratic dual federal technocracy at best, federal technocratic dictatorship at worst. The only party allowed in the state senate, thus ruling the Commonwealth, is the Technocratic Party of the Commonwealth of Jarnowa. But most of the provinces are let to be governed by a locally democratically chosen parties, the only exceptions being the larger cities. The regional politics are, while open to anyone, strongly supervised by the TPCJ, which makes sure noone is endangering their power grip on the country. Disappearances of regional politicians are common.

Federal subdivisions

The Jarnowan Commonwealth is divided into 2 states, Jarnowa and Cwirken. Jarnowa being divided into 38 provinces, 1 city with a provincial status, 1 special administrative region, 1 reservation and the capital of Kaarke and the Greater Kaarke Region. Cwirken, officially Cwirken Federal Area, is divided into 7 regions and 1 city with a provincial status.

Demographics

While most citizens of Jarnowa would call themselves simply 'Jarnowan', mostly thanks to the many assimilationist programs by the TPCJ in the last century, there are vast ethno-linguistic differences between them, with no more than 83.2% of the populace somehow meeting the definition of a Jarnowan ethnicity, and just 42.7% being a 'true Jarnowan' (Laspinian Jarnowan).

Education

The literacy rate is 98.02%.

Culture and Society

Jarnowan civilization is, together with Cersejzkan, historically considered a dominant culture of North-Eastern Athenia. With the meanings of the terms 'Jarnowa' and 'Jarnowan people' having shifted across the centuries, this article will talk about the so called Laspinian culture, which is often considered as the purest form of the theoretical modern Jarnowan culture and way of life.

Education

Jarnowa is home to one of the most advanced education systems on the planet. The schools are divided into 3 'groups of quality', each aimed at a different group of people or a social class, the C, B and A. Each of these groups is then further divided into 2 subgroups, 1 and 2, the only exception being A, which has 3 subgroups, A2, A1 and A1+. With this system in place, the A1+ schools are considered the crown jewel of the Jarnowan education system, providing top-tier quality of education to only a very limited amount of people, a majority of which are the higher ranking members of TPCJ and their relatives, while C2 schools are providing basic, but, compared to the rest of the world, still great education to the lowest classes of the Commonwealth.

Attitudes and worldview

The Jarnowan culture is centered around the idea of social image. It is said that no Jarnowan will ever reveal their true self to someone they don't consider close. The so called 'social face', which is worn in any interaction outside of the comfort zone, develops as a second personality of the person and is a hypothetical 'perfect' version of the main one - often kind, happy and open. This fake personality is however usually causing the actual one to become the polar opposite and Jarnowans are considered to be one of the rudest people groups, if given the chance to reveal it.

Cuisine

Jarnowan cuisine is the culinary traditions and practices originating from Jarnowa. The foundation of a typical Jarnowan meal is a soft bread 'Mikhlurkis', served with fish, chicken or rodents and accompanied by a variety of often very spicy sauces.

The most famous dishes include - 'Taakhl Dotrostvaii', Mikhlurkis with pieces of mouse in spicy 'Tagliieert' sauce and radishes.

'Nvtecotz', Mikhlurkis filled with minced salmon heads and parsley root.

Since the Technocratic Revolution of 1915, Jarnowa has developed into a highly diversified economy and one of the most consequential players in international trade. Much of the world's manufacturing is based in Jarnowa, more specifically in the Kanifarl region, often called the worlds's manufacturing center.
