Maarija Ryginsdohter is an Azmaran civil servant and politician who served as President of Azmara from 2015 to 2021 and as the Mayor of Aalmsted, Azmara's capital and largest city, from 2011 to 2014.

Maarija was born in Aalmsted, Azmara to a lower middle-class family in 1971 as the younger of two children.. She received a masters' degree from the University of Aalmsted in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and worked for Aalmsted City Council for a decade, where she met husband Petyr Eryksson, before becoming elected as a councillor and serving on the council for two terms until 2010, when she decided to resign as she wished to run for Mayor as a moderate independent. However, her bid gained significant support from many sections of the populace, and a municipal political party called Onwards! was formed in early 2010 to support her run; defections from major parties and independents in the council joining led to the party gaining representation within its first week of existence, and she won the election in a landslide, replacing Maarijana Hansdohter as the Mayor of Aalmsted, making her the second woman to hold the office.

Her term was marked with little controversy as her pragmatic leadership style allowed her to easily head the city government; she pursued a moderate agenda of encouraging business while also providing more relief for the homeless and more affordable public services; her clean record worked well in keeping a positive approval rating.

She managed to get together an independent bid for the Presidency, running on a promise of trustworthiness and pragmatism; stating that she would “do her job” once elected, citing her experiences as mayor as proof she could fulfil the figurehead and mediator roles required. She was elected with 71.4% of the vote, and became President of Azmara. Her term so far has seen her work with the government of Sofija Freidriksdohter and the government of Eryk Jorśsun, showing an ability to work with both of them despite their different outlooks. This pragmatism has led to a generally high opinion rating through her tenure as President.
