Nerany (Neranian: Nerannu), officially the Serene Republic of Nerany (Neranian: Siepapul Nerannui) is an independent nation in Atracia. It is located at the western edge of the Sea of Depthan and mainly on the Neranian peninsula. It also has overseas territory to the east and north, with West Sumetia and Luristed respectively. Nerany also has control over 401 named islands, all of which are around the peninsula, Sumetia, or Luristed, with its most populous islands being Islolsino and Tevenin. Its landscape is characterized by flat land, mild summers, and harsh winters.

The Neranian peninsula's arable land and rich coastline has been home to many peoples, tribes, and kingdoms. It has records of civilization dating back to 2000 BCE with Kevali kingdoms ruling the northwest coast. The Kevali were split into 13 separate states, all of which were based on trade and commerce. In 1053 BCE, Maedhros, a self-proclaimed prophet in one of the kingdoms, started a migration further northwest to unknown land. He and most of the Kevali population in 12 of the 13 tribes sailed away to Avistava at what is now known as Albithica. The remnants of the Kevali would be referred to by historians as the Erans, who continued to establish tribal kingdoms throughout Nerany and more Atracian mainland to the south.

The sparsely-populated Erans would continue to dominate the peninsula until seafarer Sigvard Osten of the Zeevolk Empire arrived on the western coast in 357 CE. He was sent on an expedition to further expand the naval empire to the east, and was sent with thousands of Zeevolk merchants and prisoners. Sigvard would become stranded on the peninsula, and would establish a kingdom of his own just a month after his arrival. The emperor of the Zeevolk, who was senile at the time, would continue to send citizens eastward in an attempt to discover what was on the other side of the ocean for himself. The natives of the peninsula, thinking of the Zeevolk to be the second coming of the Kevali that had left them long ago, welcomed them and maintained cordial relations. The Zeevolk under the name of the Esten Empire would colonize the peninsula through both diplomacy with friendlier settlements and warfare with others. One of the bloodiest wars fought during this period was the Golien War, which would cause the deaths of thousands of Zeevolk and Golien Erans.
