Normalisation (Xiaodongese: 正规化; Zhèngguī huà) refers to the ongoing state of emergency in Xiaodong, which has resulted in a widespread purge of political and civic institutions and a reassertion of dictatorial power from the Xiaodongese government under the leadership of Yuan Xiannian.

Normalisation was launched in response to the 2016-17 Xiaodongese Protests. The 2016 protests started when peaceful demonstrators against government corruption were violently dispersed by police forces, sparking much larger protests that protested against police brutality, governmental corruption and authoritarianism. As a result of the protests Chairman of the State Presidium Jiang Zhongyu stepped down as Chairman in November 2016 being succeeded by the premier Yuan Xiannian who promised to hold an early election for the Legislative Council in January 2017. The Janaury election was marked by accusations of widespread electoral fraud after Yuan's faction, the Society for Restoring Benevolence, won a large majority triggering further protests.

The Xiaodongese government under Yuan and Xi Yao-tong fearing the further protests were stoked by supporters of Jiang and pro-Senrian elements to oust the Xiaodongese government ordered the Xiaodongese Defence Force and Shujichu to suppress the protesters and impose a state of emergency over Xiaodong. Since than, the government has either banned opposition groups (such as the Alliance for Democracy in Xiaodong) or repressed their activities and arrested their members. It also linked pro-Jiang elements of the government with the Yundong spiritual movement and subsequently began a wave of political purges.

By January 2018, a year after normalisation was launched, 1,500 people had been executed by the regime, 200,000 arrested and 500,000 either suspended or removed from their jobs. According to observers after this date formal purges largely stagnated although the Xiaodongese government continues to conduct trials for subversive activities and "normalise" the political sphere. In 2019 the government announced that normalisation as a formal process would be set to end by summer 2020.
