Normalisation (Shangean: 拨乱反正; bōluànfǎnzhèng) refers to a state of emergency in Shangea that lasted from 2017 to 2021 which resulted in a widespread purge of political and civic institutions and a reassertion of dictatorial power from the Shangean government under the leadership of Yuan Xiannian.

Normalisation was launched in response to the 2016-17 Shangean Protests. The 2016 protests started when peaceful demonstrators against government corruption were violently dispersed by police forces, sparking much larger protests that protested against police brutality, governmental corruption and authoritarianism. As a result of the protests State Chairman Yuan Xiannian promised to hold an early election for the Legislative Council in January 2017. The January election was marked by accusations of widespread electoral fraud after Yuan's faction, the Society for Restoring Benevolence, won a large majority triggering further protests.

The Shangean government under Yuan and Jiang Zhongyu fearing the further protests were stoked by supporters of Jiang and pro-Senrian elements to oust the Shangean government ordered the Xiaodongese Defence Force and Shujichu to suppress the protesters and impose a state of emergency over Shangea. Since than, the government has either banned opposition groups (such as the Alliance for Democracy in Shangea) or repressed their activities and arrested their members. It also linked elements of the government with the Yundong spiritual movement and subsequently began a wave of political purges. In 2018 the government further targeted dissident members of the regime due to the "Lotus Group Conspiracy", an alleged attempted coup that reportedly had the support of vice-premier Luo Wenjiang.

By January 2018, a year after normalisation was launched, 1,500 people had been executed by the regime, 200,000 arrested and 500,000 either suspended or removed from their jobs. According to observers after this date formal purges largely stagnated although the Shangean government continues to conduct trials for subversive activities and "normalise" the political sphere. In 2019 the government announced that normalisation as a formal process would be set to end by January 2021.
