Santiago II is the King of Hatstheput. He ascended to the throne on July 6 1982 after the death of his father, Santiago I, due to cardio-respiratory disease. As the monarch of Hatstheput, Santiago II's rule was characterized by his decisive attempt to integrate his nation into the global economy as well as the relaxation of certain principles concerning non-intervention in international affairs for reasons deemed of pragmatic, superior interest.
