Early life and education

Sultan Mehmet Khan II was born the son of Sultan Mehmet I and Sultana Meryem Fatimah Khan in August the 4th 1922. He attended the Sharifistani School of Fencing and then Madinat Al-Islam University where he did a degree in Islamic Studies.

Military Service

Sultan Mehmet Khan II joined the Royal Sharifistani Army as an officer cadet in 1943, he was commissioned as an armoured cavalry officer in the Royal Madinat Al-Islam Cavalry in 1944, serving in the Second World War. In 1950, he joined the Korean War. Upon leaving the Army in 1953 he became the Emir of Sipahi County.

Religion

Sultan Mehmet II was an active member of the Mevlevi Sufi Order. He also followed a Maturidi interpretation of Islamic jurisprudence like his father and all future Sharifistani Sultans.

Composer

He composed numerous pieces of music and composed the music for the Sharifistani national anthem Sharifistan Forever. This made him popular in Sufi circles but was viewed with distaste by many Salafis.

Sultan of Sharifistan

As Sultan of Sharifistan he pursued an aggressively anti-Soviet, anti-communist, pan-Islamic policy. He notably sided with the Afghan mujahideen during the Soviet Afghan War but also supported Nelson Mandela who was not aligned to the NATO bloc (unlike the Afghan mujahideen). He also criminalised marital rape in 1980.
