Tónkowò (Weranic: Antonkow or Tonkow) is a municipality in Ostry and the third-largest community on the island, with a population of 3,273. It is located on the southeast portion of the island.
History
Tónkowò was founded 1810 as a Ostric settlement created by the gradual Weranicization of the island, with most of Ostry's arable land under the control of mainland nobles and merchants. Due to this, land was purchased by the Young Ostrins society, as a way for islanders to maintain economic control during this period. By the late 1800s, Tónkowò became the second-largest community in Ostry, staying as such until the late 1990s, when it was surpassed by Przëkam-Roztoka. In 1993, Tónkowò's Old Town was designated a Weranic Historical Area.
Geography
Tónkowò comprises 35 km2, making it the largest municipality of Ostry. It is connected by the Ostric Highway to Wiãcórk in the south and Ottobrzég to the north.
