Per BC :

At the opening of the 20th Century, the Gaullic League was the premier alliance, and its members gloated over much of the planet. This was an alliance of Hagenau, Cassone, Berique, Belka, but there was also a sub-alliance between Cassone and Txerikar as well, and an additional one between Berique and Nikolia.

Most of the members of the Gaullic League had taken territory from members of what would become known as the Northern Alliance—Arstotska, Exponent, Andamonia, Heideland, and Caledonia.

The only way that the Northern Alliance reckoned they could reclaim their revanchist claims was if they all banded together and all struck simultaneously, in different parts of the region. In doing so, they hoped to overwhelm the Gaullic League, prevent them from aiding each other, and then defeat them piecemeal.

Things, however, bog down into trench warfare in both Teudallum and Hespedesia, and, to complicate things further, once Exponent had finally gotten an upper hand in Kamalbia and was ready to send troops further west to Heideland, Aquitayne launched a Pearl Harbor-style strike, and sank a significant portion of the Exponential fleet in harbor. Thereby Aquitayne enters the war.

Eventually the Heidish monarchy is toppled by communist fighters who are fed up with the meatgrinder on their border (which is one of the bloodiest combat zones) and Cassone is able to redeploy its troops elsewhere, where they are able to begin clawing back ground for the Gaullic League. Eventually, the Northern Alliance is forced to sue for peace on relatively light terms, as no-one wants the war to go any further.

Exponent has to cede Arabona and several islets off the Aquitaynian coast, and withdraw claims to Kamalbia and Cote d'Cuivre. Aquitayne subsequently gains Arabona and those islets.

And, also, in the midst of all of this, Nikolia falls into a civil war, and Fyngaria also has a communist uprising. Aswick also becomes independent.
