The Committee for the Defence of the Revolution of the Socialist Republic of Champania (Liguersien: Comitè per la defensa de la revoluçon de la RSC; Barrois: Comite pa la Defenca de la Revoluccia de la RSC), also known as the Revolutionary Defence Committee (CDR), is the supreme state body of the Socialist Republic of Champania in charge of matters of national defence, including but not limited to: mobilization planning, appoint or dismiss military officials, proclaim a state of emergency, and guide the overall armed forces and defence-building works of the state. The Revolutionary Defence Committee holds supreme command of Champania's armed forces, including internal security forces, and its chairperson is considered to be the Champanois commander-in-chief.

Background

The Revolutionary Defence Committee started initially as the Council on War Affairs and first met in 1936 during the Champanois Civil War. The Council on War Affairs consisted of eight members each chosen from one of the far-left guerilla groups involved in the war. The Council was formalized in July 1936 with the creation of the "Provisional Working People's Government" and as the war progressed, generally took over the roles and duties of the Republican War Office. At the conclusion of the civil war, the Council on War Affairs was abolished as it was no longer needed following the communist victory.

The body would exist informally as the Security Committee within the Presidium of the Champanois Section of the Workers' International, and performed many of the same tasks and functions previously held by the Council on War Affairs. The Security Committee existed until the outbreak of the Solarian War where it was transformed into the Committee for the Defence of the Revolution after fears of an Etrurian attack on Champania grew. The Revolutionary Defence Committee was separated from the Generalitat of Champania in 1959 after several amendments were passed to the Champanois constitution. These amendments also declared the Revolutionary Defence Committee to be the "supreme military leadership institution of the state" and, following another amendment in 1975, gave the Committee full legislative and executive authority in times of war or national emergency.

The current form of the Committee for the Defence of the Revolution came about in 1982 when the current Champanois constitution came into effect. The Committee was reduced from 15 members to a non-fixed amount, with most meetings consisting of at least nine members, membership now included military officers rather than just purely party members, and several powers were conferred to it, including the ability to declare a national emergency.
