Description
English: "This portrait was first certainly recorded in 1842 at Hampton Court, when it was attributed to Van Loo. It may have been in the collection long before this. More recently it has been attributed to Highmore and connected with a reference to his painting a portrait of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1742, the probably date of this image. The Prince is shown advancing in robes of state with the collar of the Garter, his left hand by his sword and his coronet on a ledge above a carved relief of his arms."
