Deutsch: Der Lindwurm spielt als falsch redendes Bild auf den Namensbestandteil Wurm- an. Die ältere, schon im 13. Jahrhundert bezeugte Namensform war Purgmansgwike, eine Verbindung aus dem Personennamen Purgman und gewicke (mittelhochdeutsch für Wegscheide, Zusammentreffen von zwei Wegen). Das Lindwurmwappen steht bereits im ältesten, Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts entstandenen Siegel, das in Abdrucken seit 1477 überliefert ist. Möglicherweise wurden Siegel und Wappen durch die niederbayerischen Herzöge verliehen; 1365 bestätigte Herzog Stephan den Bürgern des Marktes ihre alten Rechte und Freiheiten. Das Marktsiegel blieb weitgehend unverändert. In der heraldischen Literatur finden sich zahlreiche Irrtümer. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde der Lindwurm als roter Panter oder Drache dargestellt; im 19. Jahrhundert wurden schmückende Kreuzchen außerhalb des Schildes als Sterne in das Wappen einbezogen. Die Tingierung ist seit 1811 bekannt. |
