Senior General Kaung Thura Kan (15 June 1954; ကဥင ထုရ ကန) is a Bethausian general officer who declared himself the President of the Socialist Republic of Barmia, and was made the Chairman of the State Reconstruction, Development and Preservation Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Socialist Army named the Sorepatmadaw. In his reign as president of the Socialist Republic, Kan became one of the most repressive dictators to take power, and stemming from this reputation was numerous counts of human rights abuses, forced labor and genocide against the Aasialainers from 2017-2020. When the civil war was turning against the Saminshayists, Kan declared the surrender and immediately resigned as President.

Style of Leadership

During his presidency, he oversaw the creation of the "New Era Constitution" which implemented the policies of the Saminshayist movement. It was enacted into law on 28 May 2017. Kan also prioritized law and order by giving internal authority to Saminshayist Buddhist Party Chief Secretary Thurein Zaw Wunna and Vice Senior General Thura Thiha Myo Thet to share. In economic policies, he has allowed for state and private enterprises to flourish.

Concordantly, Kan ensured censorship and even suppression of the free press and the media, detaining journalists and more liberal authors that would incur any opposition to the junta.
