Kustlân officially the Kustlân Federaasje is a Republic in North-Eastern Asura. Kustlǎn is Mountainous to the South and East whilst the North is low-lying and relatively flat. Kustlǎn is bordered by Juznia to the West, Hytekia to the South-West, Tudonia to the South, Mascylla to the west and Dosceriche to the Northwest. The Federation also shares a sea border with Alriika. Inhabited by C.A 27 Million People the Federation is divided into 12 Provinces and two Free Cities and one Autonomous State. Kustlǎn The Nation's capital is Lekkum and the largest city is Ljouwert. Noardlǎn covers an Area of X sq km. The Autonomous State of Abbegea is the nation's last colonial holding and is located in the Columbian Sea and to the north of Mascyllary Tainoa. The Archipelago extends Kustlǎn's geographic reach into Vestrim. As well as Abbegea, several uninhabited rocks and small islands are located in the South Opal Ocean. The largest being Kjeldhaven to the south of Isle Lavoueye.
Alemannic peoples have inhabited Kustlan since prehistoric times, emerging into history as the Belgans and Kustlanders. Over time, they established themselfs into duchies and kingdoms, all spread over the original territory of Kustlan. Administrated by the Alemannic Empire and the Ragucin Empire for over centuries, cultural and linguistic ties grew within the countries. After the collapse of the Empire, various Kustlanic Kingdoms were independent and formed the first, brief, Kingdom of Kustlan. An independent Kustlanic state finally assembled in the late 18th century. Kustlan became involved with Asuran politics, it started a mass campaign on exploration and discovering distant land masses and oceans; it eventually founded a colonial state in Abbegea with various other ports. Slavery was very common in the first years of the Kingdom's existance. Following the Abbegean Uprising however, further colonisation of the new world and slavery was largely prohibited. Furthermore, it concentrated its resources on shaping the political landscape within Asura. Kustlan joined militarily during the first Great War which resulted in many Kustlanic casualties and the returning soldiers coup in 1900 and the overthrowing of the monarchy.
Today Kustlân is a Republic, with a Constitutional legislative system, with the government residing in Lekkum, the nation's capital, second largest city and main cultural centre of the country. Kustlân today enjoys a high level of living standard and peaceful diplomatic relations with a number of foreign nations, and remains as a stable, secure, modern nation.
Kustlan has a long record of social tolerance, having legalised abortion and human euthanasia, along with maintaining a progressive drug policy. Kustlan abolished the death penalty in 1888, allowed women's suffrage in 1917, and became one of the world's first country to recognise same-sex marriage in 1998.
Kustlân literally means 'Coast land' in reference to the nation's flat geography and expansive Northern Coastline. The name was first used in the 9th Century by the Duchy of Ljouwert following a dispute with a smaller group of Bergen's, the Duke of Ljouwert called on all Kustlanic people's to fight against the Belgans and expel them Westwards.
The prehistory of the area that is now Kustlan was largely shaped by the sea and the rivers that constantly shifted the low-lying geography. The oldest human traces were found in higher soils, near Doanjum, from what is believed to be about 250,000 years ago. At the end of the Ice Age, the nomadic late Upper Paleolithic cultures (c. 13.000–10.000 BC) hunted reindeer in the area, using spears, but the later northern culture (c. 11.200–9500 BC) used bow and arrow. From Mesolithic Maglemosian-like tribes (c. 8000 BC) the oldest canoe in the world was found in Ljouwert.
Indigenous late Mesolithic hunter-gatherers (c. 5600 BC) were related to the southern Lhedwinic Vertebølle culture and were strongly linked to rivers and open water. Between 4800 and 4500 BC, the early Kustlanic people started to copy from the neighbouring Linear Pottery culture the practise of animal husbandry, and between 4300 and 4000 BC the practise of agriculture. To Kustlanic related Gunnelbaker culture (c. 4300–2800 BC) erected the dolmens, large stone grave monuments found in Ljouwert. There was a quick and smooth transition from the Gunnelbaker farming culture to the pan-Alemannic X pastoralist culture (c. 2950 BC).
Ragucin and Alemannic Empires
In 2000 following a series of Protests and the attempted storming of the Kustlanic Columbian Legislature, the Charter for Autonomous Areas in Kustlan was written and reformed the Political structure of various Autonomous area's such as the Columbian Territories and introduced a Confederal System in the country. The Columbian Territories, Kjedlhaven, Lekkum, Ljouwert and South Kustlan were all given Autonomous status with Abbegea relying on the Asuran country only for defence and monetary purposes. In 2006, the Kustlanic Columbian Territories was dissolved. Referendums were held on each island to determine their future status. As a result, the islands of Abbegea voted to unify and obtain Autonomous status with a clause allowing a future independence referendum. This led to the incorporation of these three islands into the country of the Kustlan as special municipalities upon the dissolution of the Columbian Territories.
In 2019, it was revealed Premier Freek Krol had been implicit in sending weapons to the Juznik Liberation Army and working with the Far-Right Minskenfrijhed party who were funded by Juznik gangs. In response to this President Fortuin fired Krol, invoking for the first time Article 32 of the Kustlanic Constitution.
