In about 3,000 B.C.E the people of ancient Malban began to form permanent settlements. These city-states were monarchies and were in power until the mid-second century. As time progressed these kingdoms took over the weaker states and struck a balance in the regional power.
In 453 AD Jalyit the Great began the series of conquests that would unite the kingdoms of Malban into the great Ma'lbanil Empire. At first, the empire was a direct democracy but soon became too large for it to work and power was consolidated in the capital shifting the government to a republic. In 455 AD Jalyit took over the government and was crowned emperor Using his new power Jalyit appointed provincial governors to assist in ruling the land. With the day to day workings of the country being handled by his most trusted, Jalyit was free to pursue his expansion dreams. He first went south taking over the lands between the Tuycre Desert and Majalvalm Desert all the way south to the ocean. In 482 AD Jalyit brought the imperial army to Ahcre to repel an attack from TBD. Ahcre would be retaken but Jalyit would not survive the battle. Jalyit's son, Creyat the Conqueror, then took power and launched a thirty-year campaign beginning in 483 AD and bringing all of the TBD land under Ma'lbanil rule. Wanting revenge for his father's death, Creyat ordered his men to massacre as many villages as they could but sparing the children. These children would become the Jalilsere, the new bodyguards of the emperor. Around the 800's AD the TBD invaded the southern provinces and due to internal struggles at the time, they were only met with local resistance. In 1067 Hefmoe II, in an attempt to revive the golden age, launched a military campaign to bring eastern Catai into the empire. This would fail and on August 8, 1068, Hefmoe would be killed during the Battle of the Mösön River leaving his brother, Jalyit VII "The Mad", on the throne. His insanity caused various Ma'lbanil nobles to band together to gain independence. Following the nobles, the Terncans tired of there centuries of subjugation also rose up and joined them in the assault on the imperial capital, Memyit. In just a week someone in the city opened the main gate allowing the rebellion in. After Jalyit VII was executed in December of 1070, the empire was officially dissolved.
Post Imperial Collapse
After the empire fell apart in 1070, the nation was returned to the pre-empire kingdoms. The most powerful of these were the kingdoms of Mome, Beca'e, and Memyit. For the first 15 years, there were no conflicts due to a truce signed after the fall of the empire, to allow time to rebuild and organize the new countries. The First conflict would happen between the kingdoms of Beca'e and Tiilmn. Tiilmn immediatly sought help from Memyit who supplied them with 2,000 soldiers and two generals, thus forming an alliance and beginning the Eastern Malban Pact. With the new troops, Beca'e was defeated and forced to give the Ulca'ul Area to Tiilmn. In the 1200s, the TBD Khanate, led by TBD, would invade and swiftly overrun the members of the Eastern Pact and push them back to the Ultuuln Mountains, burning down Memyit after a local revolt and melting down the statues of Jalyit the Great. At the mountains, the kingdoms of the west were able to defeat the TBD army and halt anymore expansion into Malban. The Ma'lbanil coalition would then continue to push the horde back and eventually retake the ruins of Memyit on December 31, 1250. After the TBD invasion, the kings of Malban not wanting to be easy pickings for prospective conquerors would establish the Ilhef'yru Getyuo Ma'lban or Great Ma'lbanil Confederation. This agreement established a defensive pact against any foreign invasions and a mediator for internal conflicts in the form of the elected high king.
The First Ma'lbanil Republic was founded on April 25, 1899. The unification was a result of the Mome-Jalyit punitive war. When Mome was victorious the states of Malban were joined into one country. Mome was picked as the capital and the black and red flag of the Ilhef'yru Getyuo Ma'lban was chosen as the national flag.
The Republic would last for thirty-one years before the rampant corruption and income inequality became the fuel for the Communist Revolution of 1930. Lead by General Yaluoil Rujalm and backed by The ASU, the revolution successfully overthrew the government and General Rujalm took absolute control installing a communist military dictatorship. As a result of the ASU support, Malban would be a close friend to the ASU providing the union with natural resources such as uranium, oil, and iron. The general wasted no time executing the entire previous government and displayed their heads in the center of Mome with the word "retuohef", meaning traitor, written on the spike. The new regime began to circulate propaganda telling people that "work is the source of happiness" and "our leader knows what is best for us".
The dictatorship would last until the New Republic Movement of 1970 ousted the regime and founded the Second Ma'lbanil Republic around the ideas of integrity, equality, and freedom. General Rujalm was crucified outside the Senate building with "retuohef" ironically written above him. The founders, learning from the failings of the First Republic, made it so any high-level government position gives up their right to privacy. Being caught making corrupt dealings was grounds for life imprisonment or execution. The New Constitution gave the Senate and president very little power, instead opting to delegate most of the power to all citizens.
The period from 1970 to 2000 is jokingly referred to as a time of slightly organized anarchy by historians, due to the government not really having any controll of the internal affairs of the country. In 2000 the people voted to give the government the authority to operate a police force. This ended the anarchy period.
The landscape of Malban is varied with the country containing three deserts: The Manultirib, The Tu'ycre, and The Majalvalm, many grassy plains and three major mountain ranges: The Ultuuln Range, The Catil Range and The Secal Range.
Government and Politics
Malban's national government consists of a legislature and the president. Each state elects fifteen representatives for a total of 150 senators. The legislature is given the power to tax, maintain the armed forces, and create laws to further the well-being of the people. Legislation can be introduced by the president, senators, or a petition of 200,000 signatures. The president is used as a tie-breaking vote, should it be required. Every five years elections are held for Senate seats and the presidency. Senators are limited to four terms while the president is limited to one.
Another key part of the government is the Integrity Investigation Board. This is an agency that is designed to root out any corruption in the government. They are allowed to press charges against any suspect provided they have a satisfactory amount of evidence. There have been four cases that the board has prosecuted since its creation. If a board member is found to have been corrupted they may be sentenced to either life imprisonment or death.
There are three major parties in Ma'lbanil politics: The Nationalist Party, The Labor Party, and The Freedom Party.
Malban has an abundant supply of accessible mineral and fossil fuel resources. Development of petroleum, natural gas, and mineral extractions, has attracted most of the over $40 billion in foreign investment in Malban since 1993 and accounts for some 57% of the nation's industrial output (or approximately 13% of gross domestic product). According to some estimates, Malban has the second largest uranium, chromium, lead, and zinc reserves, the third largest manganese reserves, the fifth largest copper reserves, and ranks in the top ten for coal, iron, and gold. It is also an exporter of diamonds. Perhaps most significant for economic development, Malban also currently has the 11th largest proven reserves of both petroleum and natural gas.
In total, there are 160 deposits with over 2.7 billion tonnes (2.7 billion long tons) of petroleum. Oil explorations have shown that the deposits on the Manultirib Desert are only a small part of a much larger deposit. It is said that 3.5 billion tonnes (3.4 billion long tons) of oil and 2.5 billion cubic metres (88 billion cubic feet) of gas could be found in that area. Overall the estimate of Malban's oil deposits is 6.1 billion tonnes (6.0 billion long tons). There are currently 6 refineries within the country located in Egru, Ahcre, Getahm, Tiilmn, Calbagru, and Valenm.
Industry and Manufacuring
Industry accounts for about 43.8% of Malban's GDP. Major industries include mining and ore processing; machinery; armaments; ; petroleum; cement; chemical and automobiles. Malban has become a preferred destination for the relocation of global manufacturing facilities due to the lax regulations.
Since the founding of the New Republic, industrial development has been given considerable attention; as of 2011 40% of Malban's national output continued to be devoted to investment. Among the various industrial branches, the machine-building and metallurgical industries have received the highest priority. These two areas alone now account for about 20–30 percent of the total gross value of industrial output. Overall industrial output has grown at an average rate of more than 10 percent per year, having surpassed all other sectors in economic growth and degree of modernization.
Most of the customs in Malban stem from the ancient religion following the dragon god Ultuilulreah. His spring and fall festivals are national holidays and are the second most celebrated after Remembrance Day.
