Nordic Airways is one of two flag carriers of Acrea, the other being the larger Royal Acrean. Its head office is in Kongsberg, Götland, and it operates out of hubs at Aestrup International Airport in Götland, Auvray International Airport in Savoy, Varde Airport in Ærøskøbing, and Sartène International Airport, in L'Île-Rousse on the Marseillan Islands. Founded in 1946, Nordic Airways has grown to be one of Acrea's largest airlines by fleet size, operating 308 aircraft. The airline operates a mixed fleet of narrow-body and wide-body aircraft manufactured by MDA. Nordic Airways is well known for its luxury, customer service, and safety record.

Corporate affairs

Nordic Airways is subsidary of Nordisk Resegrupp AB, which trades as the Nordic Group, a travel and tourism investment and holding group which is part-owned by the Acrean government. As part of the Nordic Group, Nordic Airways offers additional amenities and benefits through its sister companies such as Nordic Continental (more simply known as The Continental), a hospitality company with a strong international portfolio of hotels. Nordic Airways is headquartered in the city of Kongsberg, where it has been located since its foundation. As operations expanded over time, the airline has opened additional offices in Rouen, which serves as the main office for international operations. The airline operates out of three hubs in

The business model used by Nordic Airways is based upon a hub-and-spoke scheme. The airline's operations focus almost exclusively on high-density medium- and long-haul routes, with short-haul routes delegated to its subsidiary Nordic Regional and partner airlines. Emphasis on high-density routes alongside a relatively limited fleet for the airline's size and passengers has proven highly profitable. Additionally, Nordic Airways invests in technological solutions to increase efficiency and increase costs, such as its AirTrack program introduced in 2010 which is used to plan flights and loads for maximum route efficiency. It has also partnered with MDA to develop new technologies to enhance efficiency on the aircraft themselves, such as the introduction of NLO software on current-generation MDA aircraft which allows the aircraft to determine the best speed and flight profile for landings based on local conditions, enabling a continuous flight profile that limits emissions and saves fuel.

Subsidaries

Nordic Airways has three subsidiaries: Nordic Regional, Nordic Executive, and Nordic SkyCargo. Nordic Regional provides domestic and regional short-haul services. Its operations were rolled into Nordic Airways' overall operations in 1998 as Nordic Regional was restructured. Nordic Executive provides private and charter flights, and Nordic SkyCargo is Nordic Airways' air freight division.

Previously, the airline operated an additional subsidary, Nordic Sky Shuttle. Nordic Sky Shuttle was a helicopter airline which operated from 1968 until 2005. Although it experienced relatively good business, the high cost of maintaining a helicopter fleet combined with low cost efficiency for transporting passengers meant that Sky Shuttle operated at break even at the best of times, and at a loss at the worst of times with most of its business aided by government subsidies. Once the Acrean government elected to halt subsidies for helicopter airlines in the late 90s, Sky Shuttle operated for a few more years before eventually being sold. Nordic Airways' still maintains some helicopters for shuttle purposes from busy metropolitan areas to airports for executive and high-paying passengers.

Fleet

Nordic Airways operates a mixed fleet of narrow body and widebody MDA passenger aircraft. Most of the fleet is composed of aircraft from the E220 and E320 families, with the number of E400s operating by the airline steadily increasing over time.
