Otoitza (Lemovician: Отоіца, Miersan: Modlitwa, meaning The Prayer) is the national anthem of Lemovicia, and is seen as the ethnic anthem of the Lemovician people.

History

The music is believed to come from a traditional Episimialist hymn, although it is debatable when the song was first created, or its origins, with date ranges from 1472 to 1822.

However, the lyrics traditionally performed in the Otoitza was penned by Santso Inarov in 1837 in the Lemovician language. While Inarov's lyrics quickly became popular among the Lemovician population, the authorities in the Narozalic Empire which at the time controlled Lemovicia banned the song, as it was deemed to "promote sedition" against the Narozalic Empire.

Even after the end of the Narozalic Empire, the song remained banned, although it was popular among the Lemovician people. Thus, when Balendin Jaureguibeitia and (TBC) established the Askapen Armija, Otoitza became a popular song among the Askapen Armija's members, with the song becoming tied to Lemovician nationalism.

After Lemovicia declared its independence in 1979 from Narozalica, Otoitza became the national anthem of the newly-independent state Lemovicia, with Inarov's lyrics being made official, although only the first stanza, the chorus, the fourth stanza, and the chorus were commonly performed at most state events. While a Miersan language translation was produced, it was only ever official in Lemovician.

This situation continued until the start of the Lemovician Civil War, when democratic reformers sought to replace the lyrics, while Miersan separatists sought to get rid of the anthem altogether, making Otoitza's continued usage controversial, especially as the civil war wore on.

After the Alikianos Accords was signed in 1992, the lyrics were officially abolished, as Inarov's lyrics were deemed "divisive" and "sectarian." However, the melody and title continues to be used, despite periodic proposals for new lyrics.

First Stanza

Яінкоа, енцун ґуре отоіца
Ізан ерє, бекату еґін дуґу маітеа
Муіноак азпіян ерорцен арі діра
Запалцаілеарен прапор!

Jainkoa, entzun gure otoitza
Izan ere, bekatu egin dugu maitea
Muinoak azpian erortzen ari dira
Zapaltzailearen prapor!

Boże, wysłuchaj naszej modlitwy
Ponieważ zgrzeszyliśmy
Nasze potężne wzgórza rozpadają się
Flaga naszego ciemiężcy!

Lord above, hear our prayer
For we have sinned a myriad sins
Our mighty hills are crumbling beneath
The banner of our oppressor!

Chorus

Енцун даітеке трумоіа
Мендіетатік лаутадетара!
Бекатуак ірен даітезен
Мундуко озєанотан
Єта барка ґаіцазу.

Entzun daiteke trumoia
Mendietatik lautadetara!
Bekatuak iren daitezen
Munduko ozeanoetan
Eta barka gaitzazu.

Niech piorun Boga
Słychać przez wzgórza i równiny!
Niech nasze grzechy odpłyną
W oceany świata
Więc możemy nam wybaczyć.

May the thunderbolt of the Lord
Be heard across the hills and the plains!
May our sins flow away
Into the world's seas
So we may be forgiven by the Lord.

Second verse

Адамен семе-алабек ґара

Мадарікатуа есклабо ізатеко!

Adamen seme-alabak gara
Jainkoak madarikatua
Gure jendea hemen dago
Madarikatua esklabo izateko!

Jesteśmy dziećmi Adama
Przeklęty przez Boga za jego grzechy
Nasi ludzie są teraz tutaj
Przeklęci na niewolników!

Children of Adam, we are
Cursed by the Lord for his sins
Our people are now here
And cursed to be slaves!

Like Cain and Abel
We fought amongst ourselves
And You punished us
By letting outsiders come in here!

In the past and future!
