The 1999 World Cup, also called the 1999 Freiz World Cup, was an international football tournament contested by men's national teams which took place between 12 April to 19 April, 1999 in Freiz, Besmenia. It was the 27th World Cup, a worldwide football tournament held once every year. It was also the second World Cup hosted in Besmenia after the 1986 World Cup in Laitstadt. The tournament phase involved 32 teams, of which all came through qualifying competitions at the start of the event from an original 64 national teams.
31 national teams advanced through qualification competitions to join the host nation in the final tournament, with a total of 64 matches played in 4 venues located in Melmingen. Saint Offeat beat Vœyetska in penalties to win the tournament, claiming their first World Cup title. The host nation, Besmenia, beat Unified Sera for third.

Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony took place on Monday, 12 April 1999, at the STADIUM NAME in Freiz, beginning with the opening speech by Besmenian president Gerhard Mahler.

64 competing countries were divided into eight groups of eight teams (groups A to H). Teams in each group played one another in a round-robin best two-out-of-three, with the top four teams advancing to the knockout stage with the Round of 32.
