Gideon Boer (born November 4th, 1953) is a East Chanchajillan politician who served as the President of East Chanchajilla from December 2018 to February 2024. Born to a veteran of the Chanchajillan Civil War in the capital city of Vilanja, Boer graduated from the National Autonomous University of Vilanja in 1986 following a hiatus from his studies to participate in politics. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He began his political career in 1976 as a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (IRP). His first public position was as director of the Indigenous Institute of Chanchajilla in 1977, where he promoted the edition of books in indigenous language and the project of the border ridge. In 1989, he joined the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PDR) and was the party's 1994 candidate for Governor of Vilanja Province. He left the PDR in 2012 and in 2014 founded the National Regeneration Movement, which he led until 2017. He was chosen by President Andres Obrahoma to be vice-president in late 2017, but Obrahoma's eventual resignation and arrest ushered Boer into the presidency.
Boer's presidency was marked by two conflicts with West Chanchajilla; the Turania offensive in 2019, and the 2021 Chanchajilla War, which ultimately overthrew the long-standing authoritarian government and installed a democratic one. He also oversaw the annexation of Birat, and carried out efforts to push towards East-West reunification have boosted his profile. However, his critics often pointed to failures to retain drug cartels such as the Ouacan Cartel, and rampant inflation and unemployment skyrocketed in the last two years of his presidency after he canceled trade negotiations with Avergnon, Selle, and Mayotte. Often described as a populist and a nationalist, Boer has been a nationally relevant politician for more than two decades. He is also known for his work to make East Chanchajilla more politically autonomous from foreign involvement, specifically from Paraboca and Zamastan, though he leaned into military alliances such as WEDA. Boer ran for reelection in a snap election in 2024 against PDR candidate Augustin Pastor, in which he narrowly lost amid struggling poll numbers.
