The Lumenic Armada's Naval Infantry (Nova Lumenic Fanteria Navale) are the naval infantry of the Lumenic Armada and are completely integrated into Armada's structure. The Fanteria Navale are responsible for conducting amphibious warfare operations by utilizing naval platforms and resources to project an amphibious force onto a hostile, or potentially hostile, coast or shore. The Fanteria Navale is not only a fleet force, but are responsible for the defense and security forces of naval bases and facilities, naval schools and training units, and all facilities that support the Lumenic Armada. Currently the Fanteria Navale consists of two brigades, in addition to several support units of battalion sized strength or less.

History

Organization

1st Naval Infantry brigade

The 1st Naval Infantry Brigade consists of the 1st Naval Infantry Regiment and the 2nd Naval Infantry Regiment, both of which are designed to cooperate as a fill brigade at all times but are capable of limited individual actions.

The 1st Naval Infantry Regiment is organized as a mechanized infantry regiment equipped with Pescatore amphibious assault vehicles, allowing them to deploy directly from the Armada's Gavardo-class amphibious assault ship. The 2nd Naval Infantry Regiment is a naval cavalry regiment designed to land with and support marine infantry. Unlike the 1st Naval Infantry Regiment, who are equipped with amphibious assault vehicles, the 2nd Naval Infantry Regiment is generally conveyed to shore aboard landing craft intended for either personnel or vehicles. Together, these two regiments form the basis of the Armada's 1st Naval Infantry Brigade.

Independent Formations

  • The 10th Naval Airborne Battalion is an parachute infantry battalion and is often deployed to secure inland objectives and disrupt enemy communications and transportation just prior to landing operations. Unlike the Lumenic Army's airborne forces, Fanteria Navale parachute infantry are strictly light infantry and have no armored units supporting them. They do conduct combat parachute drops with integrated artillery units, generally equipped with the CM-56 light howitzer.

A number of formations exist for Fanteria Navale troops deployed aboard the Armada's naval vessel as security forces or as guard forces at naval instillations.

Shipboard Marine Contingents

A contingent of Fanteria Navale are deployed aboard all Lumenic Armada capital ships, including aircraft carriers and cruisers, as well as some destroyers on extended patrols or deployments. The size of a Fanteria Navale contingent will vary depending on the vessel, and can be anywhere from 12 to 50 depending on the size of the vessel. Given the downsize of the Lumenic Armada over the last twenty years, Fanteria Navale are generally small in number and only deployed board the Armada's remaining capital ships or any vessel conducting a long range oceanic patrol, an extended mission, or visiting a foreign nation.

These shipboard Fanteria Navale troops are charged with a variety of duties, including maintaining order aboard the vessel, operating the vessel's brig, acting as shore patrols when the ship is in port and the crew has been given liberty, boarding vessels and repelling enemy boarders and acting as a personal security detail for the vessel's captain, as well as other duties. When not preforming these duties, they are usually assigned to preform a function board the ship, such as acting as gunners mates, mess attendants, or preforming labor and maintenance.

Lumenic Armada regulations require at least one officer of the vessel's marine contingent be aboard at all times unless directly excused by the ship's captain. In addition, Lumenic Armada traditions state that there can not be more than one "Capitano" aboard a vessel. If the commander of a  Fanteria Navale contingent is a marine "Capitano", or O-2, he would be addressed as "Maggiore", the next highest commissioned rank, in all social situations, as it would be a breach of protocol and tradition to refer to any person but the vessels commander as "Capitano" while aboard a vessel. This restriction would not apply when ashore and is largely ignored when Fanteria Navale personnel are addressing one another out of the vessels captain's presence.
