The Special Operations Element (SOE) serves as the paramilitary and direct action arm of the MID. It is responsible for a range of covert and clandestine operations such as direct action, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, and intelligence collection.

The West Aurelian government may not wish to be overtly associated with the unit's operations, and as such the unit's operatives may not carry any objects or clothing that would associate them with the West Aurelian government. If they are compromised during a mission, the West Aurelian government may deny all knowledge.

The SOE has a long history of cooperation with the Marine Corps' Special Activities Group (SAG) and the Army's Special Reconnaissance Wing (SRW), with a large number of its operatives being recruited from its military counterparts.
