The Monarchist Party (Vyvlander: Monurkespaart) is a Vyvlander monarchist political party, run by members of the now-unofficial Vyvlander monarchy, the former rulers of North Vyvland. They currently hold 7 seats in the Vyvlander Parliament, having increased this from 4 in the 2013 general election.
The party is generally traditionalist and favours the reintroduction of absolute monarchy. Its support is low, with many more moderate monarchists having moved in support to the Conservatives. It is socially conservative, with disapproving stances on gay rights, euthanasia and drug legalisation, and is most popular with older voters.
History
The Monarchist Party was set up in 1983 at the de-merger of the North Vyvlander Conservative-Monarchist Party into the Christian Democratic and Conservative Party (later the Conservative Party) and the Monarchist Party. It has made confidence-and-supply agreements with two governments since its foundation (that of Rikard Fegaad from 1998-2002 and Denis Eeris from 1989-1993), but has participated in no cabinets. Since 1996, its leader has been the Crown Prince of the Vyvlander monarchy, Morten, who is set to become King when the King Verdnand dies.
