Göke has fairly restricted voting rights in comparison to most Meridonian countries. Göke limits suffrage to ethnic Gökans, or those of other ethnicities and nationalities that have sworn a loyalty oath to Göke, and paid a loyalty tax. Restrictions on voting were switched dramatically in the 1942 reorganization of the country, with emphasis on switching from class based restrictions to ethnic ones. Criminals were initially permanently stripped of suffrage, but criminal reforms in 1976 liberalized criminal suffrage, allowing felons whose term has been served to pay a tax to regain their voting rights.

Illaria has seen several shifts away from restricted franchise towards a more universal voting rights regime. Initial suffrage was limited to native Illarian Răscumpărarist landed men of majority age. Suffrage was slowly expanded removing religious restrictions, gender restrictions, and national origin restrictions first, and slowly weakening class restrictions. Class restrictions, though weakened throughout the twentieth century, would not be fully abolished until the late 1990s. Criminals were initially barred from suffrage, criminal reform in 2013 granted suffrage to those of a criminal background who had served their terms.
