A general election was held in Vyvland on Wednesday 30 October 1996 to elect all 580 members of the Parliament of Vyvland (Laanfeng). The 1996 election was the third election held within four years.

The outcome of the election was the end of Anhelm Ferog's KDC-Socialist coalition and the formation of a coalition between the Socialist Party and the Liberal Party under Mafjas Skenterby. The Liberal Party gained the largest number of seats - 24 - in the election, with the National Party continuing a long period of decline by losing about a quarter of its seats.

The main focus of the 1996 campaign was the Namorese bombing of Syfmion earlier that year. Ferog's KDC had championed direct military intervention to stop the airstrikes, with the Socialist and Liberal parties opting for a diplomatic condemnation of a response. The National Party had called for an "all-out war on Namorese imperialism," which was widely ridiculed due to its unfeasibility.

In addition, controversy over the tax-cutting budget of Finance Minister Welelm Taolin had weakened the government and KDC, and prompted a withdrawal of the Socialists from the governing coalition.
