The Python, also known as the Or-81 Articulated Track Carrier is an articulated tracked carrier developed by the Empire of Exponent in the 1970s and 80s in response to logistical difficulties faced by the Imperial Army during the Hesperidesian Revolutions. Designed and manufactured to meet the specific needs of the Empire's forces, the Python continues to be a critical asset in the Blackhelm Confederate Army.

Design and Development

The development of the Python began in the late 1970s, driven by the need for a versatile and robust vehicle capable of operating in the diverse and rugged terrains encountered during the Hesperidesian Revolutions. Engineers at the Orangeblossom plant worked to enhance the vehicle's capabilities, focusing on improved mobility, payload capacity, and durability.

Prototype Development

Initial prototypes of the Python underwent rigorous testing, leading to several iterations that refined its articulated design, powertrain, and load-bearing capabilities. Feedback from these tests ensured the vehicle met the operational needs of the Empire of Exponent's military forces.

Variants

  • Python-P: The primary version of the vehicle, featuring two articulated units and amphibious capabilities. It is designed to carry personnel, equipment, and military hardware in the most challenging conditions without prior reconnaissance and route reinforcement.
  • Python-E: An excavator variant equipped with hydraulic systems to facilitate construction and engineering tasks in remote areas.
  • Python-MNE: A specialized variant outfitted with a hydraulic excavator and outriggers for enhanced stability during operations. It features a sealed body for transporting up to 12 tons of equipment.
  • Python-K8: A variant designed for drilling and construction work on soils with low bearing capacity. It is equipped with universal drilling equipment suitable for boring wells in various soil conditions, including permafrost and quicksands.
  • Python-N: A crane-equipped version with a telescopic boom, providing a vast operational envelope and significant hoisting height, ideal for heavy lifting tasks in difficult terrains.

Production and Deployment

Once the design was finalized, the Python entered mass production at the Orangeblossom plant. Its deployment began with units stationed in the most demanding regions, where it quickly proved its value. The Python's performance in both logistical and engineering support roles made it an indispensable asset for the Empire of Exponent's military, and later the Blackhelm Confederate Military, enhancing their operational capabilities across a wide range of environments.

Operational Use

The Python is used extensively in the Blackhelm Confederate Military for transporting supplies, equipment, and personnel. Its articulated design allows it to navigate rough terrains and water obstacles, making it a critical asset in maintaining supply lines and supporting military operations in remote and challenging areas.
