From Middle Kerasian هيوۏ - hiwo ("qalam, writing tool"), from Old Kerasian هيمو - himo ("anything long and thin"), from North Aradeshi fimo ("stick"), from Aradeshi fimbo ("stick"), from Proto-Aradeshi *vimbo ("stick").
