According to the city's plan, Yongsan will have several skyscrapers around the Yongsan International Business Tower, and an international business district covering 495,000 square meters of land, including underground and ground facilities.

Several buildings and facilities were canceled due to budget issues or legal issues with construction companies, but many buildings included within the originally planned area and The Yongsan International Business Tower began construction as scheduled. Hyundai Construction was in charge of the entire tower's construction process, and architect Lim Yunseo was in charge of the tower's design. Construction of the tower began in 2016, and it opened to the public in 2022 after being completed in 2021.
