History

Format

The festival usually has around 20 to 30 participants. The participants are usually already popular to some extent in Ganji Islands, and the songs are usually made by professional composers.

Old format (1960-2019)

The festival consisted of 5 Nights, the First Night was usually on the first or the second Saturday of April. The First Night was the original performance of the song. The Second and Third Nights were both original performances, but only 10 songs performed in both. The Fourth Night was a cross-performance night, where the participants performed their own version of another song taking part. The Fifth Night was the Final Night, where the participants performed their song one last time. The jury voted for their favourites, and the jury ranking would be released after the interval acts had performed. The top 3 of the jury went to the Superfinal, where the public decided their favourite through the televote. The song with the most votes won the festival.

Revamped format (2020-)

First Night: The first half of the artists perform their song for the first time. The demoscopic jury votes on this evening.

Second Night: The second half of the artists perform their song for the first time. The demoscopic jury votes on this evening, and the general ranking of the First and Second Night will be revealed.

Third Night: The participating artists perform their songs once again. The press jury votes on this evening, and the general ranking of the First, Second and Third Night combined will be revealed.

Fourth Night: The participating artists perform a cover of another song taking part in Cabonde Bay Music Festival 2022. The orchestra members vote on this evening, and the general ranking will be updated and revealed once again.

Fifth Night (Cover Night): The participating artists perform their cover of a popular song, and the artists can choose to perform the song solo or together with an acclaimed Ganjian or international guest artist. The public votes on this evening, and the general ranking will be updated and revealed for the last time.

Final Night: The participating artists perform their songs for the last time. The vote will consist of the general ranking of the previous nights (20%), which will be combined with the public vote (80%). The top 5 will move on to the Superfinal, where the votes will be reset, and the televoting opens once again for 15 minutes. The winner will be decided by the combined votes of the Demoscopic Jury (33%), the Press Jury (33%) and the Televoting (34%).

Cabonde Marroquin

Cabonde Marroquin was a song contest held annually alongside the Cabonde Bay Music Festival. It began in 2003. It was usually held about a month before Cabonde Bay Music Festival in Cabonde Bay. Normally it featured 10-16 artists. Every artist sent an original song and performed it in a semifinal which was broadcasted live. The best acts continued to the final where the winner was crowned. It was discontinued after 2021.
